It is mid Sept The days begin to, pick up speed when Oct arrives Here in PA goose and dove hunting have already started In about 4 weeks grouse season and right after that is pheasant season and turkey season .They may not be as popular as they where 25 to 30 years ago but many still look forward days of getting together with a few friends to bird hunt .My favorite was hunting the ringneck with a friend or 2 and at least one dog .My health has limited my hunting days over the last few years .I really enjoyed pheasant hunting with my Springer spaniel 30 years and my 2 Boykin Spaniels 5 years ago Like many othersform the state of PA I began to subscribe to THE PA GAME NEWS as a kid about 10 years old I save all those old magazines along with 50 plus years of Fur Fish Game and the Trapper. &Predator caller Along with other magazines I receive and saved the pile got higher and higher I would say I probably had more than 5000 old magazines from 8 to 12 different publishers .Well the time as come to downsize. Because THE PA GAME NEWS was one of my favorite magazines .I have decided to save some that where/ are still special to me .Ned Smith a wildlife artist from PA had many of his prints on the cover of that magazine over the years His attention to detail made his renditions lifelike .And nearly everyone my age that even hunted for even a little bit in PA knows who Ned Smith is . I am certain that many other PA bird hunters .like myself have pictured themselves in the .scenes he created .So since it is nearly impossible to give away or sell those old mags mine have been slowly finding a way to the street curb and than the landfill or the county incinerator .I kept a few and I hope my mind last me long enough so I can keep the memories of all the enjoyment and satisfaction from those times spent hunting birds .
