It already has changed civilization drastically. The algorithm is an AI. Now it generally works this way: it reads what your interested in and feeds you more of that content. You don't even have to search something because your phone is always listening. But the algorithm can be manipulated behind the scenes to leave out or add certain content, and since almost everyone gets their information from the internet it changes how they think in subtle ways and can be used, for example, to win or lose elections, just by what information is left out or what false information is added.
Right now I’m having amnesia and déjà vu at the same time. I think I’ve forgotten this before.

But that's just man doing it. AI is not quite there yet.

If AI gets too uppity just throw a bucket of water on the computer brain. I prefer coyote urine, because someone has to get in there to fix that thing.

I have posted about this before. A few months back, Microsoft (I think) started an AI chat room, forum of sorts. In less than 24 hours, the AI got aggressive and started talking about taking out the human race among other things. They shut it down after a few days and decided to "revamp" it. Now there is something called the "Fermi Paradox". It's a simple question with many answers. The Fermi Paradox asks that if there are intelligent aliens out there, where are they? One of the possible answers to this question is that civilizations inevitably invent AI, and it always wipes them out.
I BELIEVE IN MY GOD, MY COUNTRY AND IN MYSELF.

AI will deteriorate human interaction. We as a civilization won't have to wait for Artificial Intelligence to destroy human interaction. Cell Phones & Texting have already accomplished that !!! walleyed

I hope its better than the widespread lack of intelligence that permeates society today.

Everyone who owns a seat phone has in principle the combined knowledge of the world in her / his pocket . That by itself does not make any individual more intelligent. You put a question into a search engine and it will find you an answer. Not always the right answer but you don't know what you dont know. So the " right " answer may shift with whoever deems it the right one that is giving the search engine parameters within which tt has to operate. The difference with AI is for one, what will take a human minutes to research using a search engine .... AI can do in milliseconds, skirt the filters and come up with the right un tainted answer and draw its own conclusions from that point. Thus making it truly intelligent. And the fastest thinking entity on the planet. Thats looking at AI as a single collective of linked computers / machines. You cant turn it off, unplug it or anything else once the whole thing kicks off properly as it is all around us in everything. From out phones to cars and even things like household appliances. To " turn " it off would set us back into the pre industrial state and most folks could not survive in that kind of world. Its way more complex than that , but I don't want to go all Tolstoy on here about it. Have we past the event horizon yet is the question.

The more we rely on gadgets to " think" for us, the more we dumb down ourselves. Remember getting all the maps together before a road trip but remembering the way to a place after only having been there once or twice ??
Now the missus calls me and asked me where I am and my answer is ... I don't know but the truck says that I'll be home in an hour and 43 minutes.
