His friends suck.
At least one should have stayed even if the rest had to go for hekp.

No doubt his friends suck and I'd be strongly considering them as ex friends. I doubt I could leave a stranger in that situation let alone someone I condsider a friend.

I'm going to give his friends the benefit of the doubt, for now.

If I were in his situation, had a way of communication and locator beacon like he did, and had made contact with rescuers like his friends did before they left, I would have strongly encouraged my friends to move on without me. I would have insisted.

That doesn’t sound as sensational as 60 year left by friends.

The guy wasn't hiking with friends or even decent human beings.

My boys and I were hiking down Mt Jefferson in NH years ago when we came up on a woman and her teenage daughter. We were still a ways above treeline and the daughter had sprained her knee and couldn't walk. I had a neoprene knee brace that I gave them and the woman asked how she could get it back to me. I told her it was not problem because we were not leaving them until they were down. We carried the girl down and got help from other hikers as they came up on us. Everybody that came along chipped in with getting the girl down.

I'm hate to sound like I would 2nd guess you but I can see a possible difference. Im assuming you would be holding a hand cannon and IDK if this guy had one or would be as proficient with it as you or I would hopefully be. If it said he was armed in the article, then forgive me I missed it.

I know the percentage of predatory black bear attacks is said to be small but and insured and elderly man might inspire a hungry one past the point of no return. That would be my first fear.

Hugh Glass was left for dead by those charged with staying with in until he died. Some argue that it was his desire for revenge that kept him alive. He never did get to take out his revenge.

EdP I'd hope anyone of solid character like you would run across me if I was ever down in the back country. Kudos
