Why not use technology to help kids learn at home when weather conditions make it hazardous for them to be safely transported to school to learn?
What could any person, who wants to see their kids receive a great education, possibly see wrong with this?
Education is vitally important for the children and our country.
Keith Isn't the use of technology to stay at home during Covid shutdowns how they got so far behind?

![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2023/09/full-21521-189609-dscf2162.jpg) I loved snowy days. That 72 tnt was my ride to high school They wouldnt close the school here in town when my kids were in public school, but they would cancel busses for the kids that lived out of town when the highway was closed. My kids went to school and went to the sliding hill for a few hours after school only coming in for supper, then back out. Of course the kids had lots of fur to wear so they spent just as much time out in winter as in summer.

2 inches of snow here they close the school. Worried about lawsuits if a bus slides off the road. Grandson told me about a kid smoking pot on the bus with a vape pen. I told him not to try it and why. My lovely bride called the school. Driver said he hadn't smelled anything. I suspect the smoker got it from his folks. Grandson is in 6th grade and the smoker in high school. Grandson didn't get thumped so I don't think the smoker knows. Me and gramma had a talk.

Snow days are for snowflakes. Its a modern thing for the softie generations. There was never a school closed due to winter blizzards when I went to school And no school bus, walked 45 minutes to school each way all year starting in Grade two. Kids today are pusses. Yep , unfortunately the libtard snowflakes produce more snowflakes . Lots of coddled crybabies these days

My son is the transportation director for the school district here. All our busses here have video cameras rolling and are used for review for any kind of problems. Danny, your wife's call would have been taken very seriously, the video reviewed, and disciplinary action taken. When one of the parents calls to chew my son out about a student being disciplined for something their little angel would never do, he invites them to come and watch the video. Sometimes he will even offer them double or nothing if they call him a liar about the situation. As far as snow days there sure is a lot of chest thumping going on by a bunch of old men.

Keith I agree. This seems like a really stupid complaint.

For the last 2 years when there's a snow day here the school makes it a "virtual" learning day so the kids do school on the computer but teachers don't have to teach. That means one of has to stay home and help the kids, asked the wife if I could make them knock a days worth of teacher pay off the property taxes... guess not haha Public education was never meant to be a babysitter so you can work without worrying about your kids. That's what most people think today, school is a babysitter, heaven forbid they might have to make a sacrifice of their time or money for their kids. As far as the teachers, they are probably online working at home. When you come home from your job at night do you put in several hours through the week for your job? They have to grade papers, prepare new lessons & programs, get supplies for class, or a myriad of other things that need done for teaching your kids that goes on after official school hours.

Many kids got behind during Covid because they were unsupervised. They didn't apply themselves and didn't do any homework. A teacher told me that some kids in her class never once logged in. What were the parents thinking?
Being on a school board is a thankless job. Impossible to suit everyone and states are changing laws each year as well.
Thank you to all who have volunteered to help at their local school and to those who served on school boards. Agree. We need parental involvement and a strong public education system in this country.

When my wife whines about working "after hours" grading papers and such, I remind her that she knew that came with the job. She doesn't appreciate my compassion.

My gramma taught school in a rural one class room 1-8 school. to graduate high school she had to stay with a relative in a town about 30 miles away. To become an elementary teacher she had to complete a 6 week course during the summer. That fall she was the teacher. The kids who completed her elementary education were better educated than at least half the high school graduates today. Even if dollars were matched by inflation their education cost taxpayers less money per kid.
Her teaching certificate was substantially less than a degree in elementary education today. to teach high school in those days did require a bachelors degree. LOTS of kids never went to high school.
I don't blame the teachers. I blame the takeover by the federal government.

K52 there is a camera on the bus. Kid ducked behind the seat to take a puff. School doesn't want to get involved. That kid has a lot family problems. Writing him a ticket, kicking him out of school wont help him. Some kids don't have much of a chance because of family. It will never change. Been that way forever. I don't want my grandson fighting with a high school kid over confiding to me. I want him to continue trusting me. Some things the authorities will only make worse. There has to be a few, but kids that were helped by the foster care system are pretty rare.
