Guys at the NTA western at rock springs Wyoming I talked w a guy about a fur sewing machine. It wasn’t a bonis but a machine that had everything in one place, not like the bonis that has the motor separate. Unfortunately I lost the info on the person selling this machine. If anyone know this guy I’d appreciate his info. Thanks

I, on the other hand, would like to know what a hobbiest could get away with using. I.e. 3 to 4 hats per year.

3 or 4 hats a year you might as well sew by hand.
There are newer fur sewing machines available I believe they are called techsew.I never seen one in person but they look to be made of plastic like the current fabric sewing machines.Dont know how long those may last.

The Bonis neverstop machines are currently still operating as far as I have heard.Even some of the early ones made in the 1920's are still cranking out garments.

Techsew are not plastic. Biggest problem is they are Chinese.
Unlike a Bonis they come with a Servo which is a foot speed adjuster. You also get the motor and a tables with the when buying new. I use one and it is a little testy at times but as Boco says they make gold

You can get Sevo's as an add on for a Bonis. Motors are extra money. Tables you make. Never used one but they may very well be worth the money compared to the Techsew. Hear lots of good things about them on FB.

Fur sewing is a practice art. Boco is miles ahead in the game as he was schooled. Most of us just learn by mistakes.

When I bought my Bonis from a sheepskin coat manufacturing facility,It came with the motor and table.I chose the B machine because it is better suited to heavier pelts like beaver and wolf which is a lot of what I sew.It also handles thinner leathered species like fox and lynx just fine with a smaller needle and adjusted stitch.Lots of furriers choose the A models commonly called mink machines. These are what you want if you are sewing small skins and need to let them out-which is slicing the whole pelts into 1/4 or 1/2 inch strips,re aligning them and sewing back together. This makes a 18 inch long and 4 inch wide mink skin ito a 1 inch wide and 3 feet long skin.I do not do that work with the b machine. Although I have done some leathering with the b machine on heavier furs to make them lighter.Leathering is inserting half inch strips of garment leather between 1 inch strips of heavier fur like wolf or fox
John Garde company in Toronto has everything you need for all sewing machines, including the Bonis. He might sell them also, not sure.
I order all my needles thread etc from John Garde.
