We put crossbow on 35 acres of warm season grass to kill honeysuckle and other woody plants as well as the qoldenrod before it goes to seed.
My first time in a spray rig like this. There was a lot of rabbits, so the coyotes must be eating fawns because they are easier to catch than a bunny.
Those tall skinny tires made some great snaring trails for sure.

I am amazed at the I call moon walker spray rigs They cover a lot of ground in short order . And I guess the design is to be able to hold that much weight and be stable on the hill sides Modern day farming is vastly different from 50 years ago .Are you growing switchgrass as a cover or is it part of a conservation planting (CREP).I wish someone could come up with a use from it as a cash crop Such as bio fuel If it was profitable the growing of it would increase by a significant factor Due to cost to establish it and the tonnage yield it would make it a worthwhile crop to grow And the increased production would be the best thing to happen to all ground nesting song birds and game birds and waterfowl Plus the deer love to hide out in i. It is a deer magnet looking for cover Foxes coyotes ,all predators hang out nearby due to the increased cover providing more habitat for prey animals Cool post.HOPE IT WAS FUN AND NOT JUST MORE WORK

Everything you just named is food/cover for wildlife. So what’s growing in its place?

Warm season grass meadows get overtaken by the invasive species; if left alone they ruin the WSG planting. CREP usually covers spraying cost if it’s in a erodible soils conservation plan like we have in PA.

Did you spray it yourself? We have had trouble with the co-op spraying CRP for brush and the mix is too weak/just gives it a headache.

They want warm season grass per the CRP contract, not all the other stuff I mentioned. There are separator strips that are a fire break to help with controlled burns so I can burn a third of it every 3 years that have a whitetail clover mix planted in them and there are food plots with beans and turnips. It is so dry here that the deer are eating the juicy turnip greens big time now. After the frost the turnips turn sugary and the deer eat them this winter.

I had a friend do the spraying on my dime, crossbow is pricey, but works better than just 2-4-D. I have spent a lot of hours trying more labor intensive ways to get rid of the trees and honeysuckle. The worst third of the area will get burned in the spring before the end of March and hopefully this kills it so they don't come back. I got a brush mower for the front of my bobcat to clear off some of the problem areas to let the grass fill in. Might have to replant some warm season grass in a couple areas.
