Well another beautiful day and another hog. I know some don’t like these but I get tired of seeing the political and life is ending posts, so I thought I’d add something we all enjoy as outdoorsman/women!
I hit the snooze a couple of times and didn’t get up until 0520. The wife didn’t have to get up early because she had a 5K run this morning. First thing I do is check my phone for pigs. No pigs, but did have a caught coyote! I decided I’d head to the back and see if I could spot anything.
As I’m going through the gate, a pic pops up of a lone pig at the camera I was heading to. I drove on in and parked and checked the wind and was able to take a shorter route. I got to the main feed trail and spotted the pig but decided I could get a little closer. What I didn’t realize is as I’m getting closer, so is he! Almost too close!!
I was within a couple hundred yards of the caught coyote and decided to check it out going through the different heat signatures and watching for a bit to see if anything might be checking it out.
Once it started breaking day I worked my way back to the truck and went to take care of the coyote. She turned out to win the award for best vocals and most photogenic!
It’s an IRay Bolt TH50-C on a Ruger Predator .308 shooting 165gr Remington Core-Lokt Tipped. I use a Primos Gen 3 tripod as well. A lot of folks told me I’d regret putting a thermal on a bolt action, but I hunt wooded areas and have still managed to make multiple kills on a sneak. It’s lightweight to me at just shy of 9# and the tripod is 2# and I carry it in my left hand and the rifle on my shoulder while walking.
