Paul gave me permission to start a plant and seed exchange thread. Thanks Paul.
We can use it to list what we have available and what we are looking for. There's been a multitude of threads on chestnuts, persimons, oaks/acorns, wild plums, choke cherries, strawberries, tomatoes, blackberries, blueberries, raspberries, elderberries and more. It would be great if we can share what we have and help each other round out what we grow by exchanging seeds, cuttings, seedlings, saplings, bulbs, tubers, korms or anything else we can propagate plants from.
I would suggest that the the sender charges nothing for the material, but receives the cost of shipping back from the receiver.
I would suggest that all inquiries are made by private message.
I would suggest that the receiver be responsible for checking that they can legally receive the plant material.

I currently have common milkweed seeds, apricot/small peach seeds, hyacinth bean seeds (Dolichos lablab)and spearmint available.
I can likely provide button bush and black walnut seeds soon.
During the dormant season, until the Spring, I will have Remembrance Elderberry cuttings, purple lilac cuttings and catawba grape cuttings available.
In mid to late June of next year, I will have seeds from a very good, sour cherry. They typically will bear fruit in 3 to 4 years from seed.
I would be interested in viable hazelnuts, persimmon seeds, wild plum and pawpaw seeds.

I hope people know what they are planting & sharing. I can foresee problems with this. Stick with a locsl seed source is the best advice. Don't rely just on laws. There are some things that can be planted, while legal, is not wise.
Here is what WI requires for people to order seeds from WDNR:
"Contact with a knowledgeable forester is required prior to ordering seed."

"Contact with a knowledgeable forester is required prior to ordering seed." The easy answer to that is if you're concerned about the seeds being local, only ask for seeds from people local to you. Our locations are in all our profiles. Keith

Great idea Keith! I love planting and collecting seeds from native plants. Definitely using the local plant ecotype is a must; particularly for forbs and grasses.
I've been helping a buddy of mine experimenting with grafting oak trees. Results were dismal at first, but now its impressive. Where I live in the blackland prairie region of Texas, bur oaks are about the only white oak species suitable to the climate and soils. A friend of mine and me have been grafting white oak (Q. alba) and swamp chestnut oak (Q. michauxxi) onto these bur oaks and it is working! Pretty awesome! Been doing it for nearly 10 years now and had lots of failures first few years as we didn't know what we were doing. Now we native rooted bur oaks that produce three kinds of acorns!

That's really cool Chancey. That may give you a more reliable mast crop, since different species of oak trees do better some years than other species. The varying Fall colors on mature trees would be nteresting too. Keith

Maybe this could be made a full on thread, so it won't get too bulky and keep sliding down the page to disappear!

I have heirloom garlic. Not that much but some.
If anyone wants 3 bulbs (might give you 10-15) plants, please DM me. I don't need anything in return, just want to do a good deed.
I will respond only to people with "a bunch of posts," for safety reasons; please don't be offended.

Is it possible to make the seed exchange password-protected so the entire internet isn't reading it?
Also: I have other stuff. I have Betony seeds. Anyone?

Great idea for a thread!!
I have access to a ton of stuff on my land and surrounding area. I was actually making an inventory of the different plants on my land the other day. I will try to update this list as I locate and identify different things or as we grow out our stock of other plants. I'm in zone 4, so its cold hardy stuff(with exception to a few indoor plants).
Spearmint - Herb/Medicinal peppermint - Herb/Medicinal hawthorn - Fruit/Medicinal currants(3 varieties) - Fruit wild licorice - Herb/Medicinal giant burdock - Herb/Medicinal red twig dogwood - Herb/Medicinal, used in kinnick kinnick and for very nice arrow shafts. coyote willow - bush grand fir - tree common poplar - tree aspen - tree/Medicinal weeping willow - tree rhubarb - food strawberries (4 varieties) - fruit valerian - Herb/Medicinal citronella - Herb, mosquito repellant Aloe Vera - Medicinal bearberry - Herb/Medicinal, used in kinnick kinnick mullein - Herb/Medicinal nettle - Herb/Medicinal/Food bleeding heart - ornamental flower Iris - ornamental flower dianthus - ornamental flower thyme - Herb/Medicinal English lavender - Herb German sage - Herb chives - Herb oregano - Herb milk weed - Herb/Medicinal/Ornamental flower hollyhock - Ornamental flower/herb/food Lilac - Ornamental flower Lambs quarter - Food/Medicinal prickly pear - Food wild rose - Herb/Medicinal/Food horse radish - Herb/Food prairie white sage - Herb, used in religious practices. goldenrod - Herb/Medicinal dock/sorrel - Food shepherds purse - Food/Mosquito control(need to verify this). choke cherry - food/tree elderberry - Food/medicinal/bush
If you have an interest in any of what I have listed please free to send me a message, I cant promise I will keep up on this thread. But get a hold of me if I can help you out.
For trades, I'm interested in wild edibles that can grow in our area, organic non-patented vegetable seeds, non-patented herbs, non-patented ornamentals. I dont know if its really the purpose of this thread, but I'm probably open to trading for trapping supplies or craft supplies or finished products too if there is something you are really hoping to get : )
When I grow up I want to be a real mountain man.
