He can do it..if anyone can...That I know for sure..cause they're ain't but a handful of guys out their qith his discipline and work ethic..and like I said..We've mapped out a new strategy for this season..

They're will be less expense involved and less days....but it should be alot more efficient...

He CAN do it

I got nothing but faith in him.

Marten are an interesting study. Cathryn, it would be interesting, I think, to see Jerry's catch history for this area. I remember last years thread on his marten line. Has he trapped that area before then.
Up here in Alaska it is pretty rare to find an area you can consistently take 100 marten. There are too many factors effecting marten numbers.

Same here MT.
Some years the marten are everywhere, other years after reproductive failure related to microtine crash and/or long winter with late season crust, there are none the next year and not worth running sets at all for them.In fact trapping in those times can significantly delay the recovery.
Might be different things at play in the mountains.Weather and its effects is likely much more variable in mountain terrain. Here things are widespread when they happen.

Good luck even though it will be more back breaking work than luck to accomplish your goal.

He's trapped the same area for 10 plus years hard for marten and has never caught less than 50 in a 3 week period.

It could happen.

Well aee.

If the non residents can trap marten in michidan then you can in wyoming..even if there's a limit in your state..as.long as a non resident can trap them too.

You will have no limit on how many you can catch in qyoming.

The license is 249.00. It only is given out of the Cheyenne office and I'd get it before I went out cause sometimes the guy that gives them is busy with elk season and stuff..

He will hit spots from year to year along his line where the populations seems low but on other parts he qll catc more than he typically.

The line changes from year to year but always produces.

He could have caught more but he gave part of his established ,proven line ,to a high school kid 3 years ago. He caught between 10 and 15 a year.

He's in college now and isn't gonnatrap so jerry will get that area back so that should improve his catch, Good Lord willin.

Michigan dnr screws us residents by restricting non residents. No marten allowed for non residents. How many non resident trappers would actually come here to catch 2 marten a year? Probably under 10 a year. Dumb law.

How many?.... Likely every Tom, Dick and Harry within an hour of our border would come for two marten...especially when they arent allowed to target marten in their state (Wisconsin). Heck, I know all sorts of trappers i the lower peninsula willing to drive several hours to get across the bridge to trap them.

I disagree buck, if you cant catch any marten in your home state, they are a novelty and there would be plenty of non-residents lining up to catch marten. Id line up in to trap in another state if there was a critter ai wasnt allowed to catch here...assuming i didnt have to drive too far.

I wonder how that would work for us since we have marten but no season on them for resident or non resident. Would I still be able to come out there and trap them?

What did Jerry's marten fetch last year?
And I'd like to look at last year's pics again too if anyone can find the thread from a year ago.
Trapping subjects are rare on Trapper Talk these days! laugh
