Sometimes you're the bug. My go to Osage hunting bow gave up the ghost yesterday. Complete and rapid disassembly of the upper limb at full draw. Time to figure out what I'm going to shoot for deer season.

Back about 1990, I had that happen with a PSE FireFlight compound with a 4" overdraw. Bow riser broke in half just above my grip hand with bow at about 4/5s full draw. I was pulling 90lbs at peak cam/wheel rollover. The overdraw shelf bit into my left wrist causing a nice pattern of lacerations. The top "half" of the bow flew by my noggin and over my left shoulder in a blur. Cables wrapped all over my head and face. Luckily the arrow launched forward amd clear.

I shot archery tournaments most weekends and practiced nearly every day, but that rattled me. PSE sent me a brand new bow. Local pro shop rigged new bow up for me as I was on their shooting team.

I dont shoot 90 anymore.......lol

Something like this happening sure makes a guy gun shy to pick up another one and keep shooting.

Dry firing is bad enough. I can't imagine breaking a limb.

Had a Golden Eagle Lite speed compound do that. Top limb explodes at about 3/4 draw left me standing with the riser in my hand and the string around my arm. Was shooting from 20 yards and found pieces of the top limb 20 yards beyond the target. All I could do was laugh.

A friend made that for me. I made him a braintanned, beaded pouch in trade for it.
Guess I'll have to break out the tools and get working on one.

Dang, Snowy, Osage is some tough stuff. You must have been in 'Beast Mode' when that thing blew up. eek

Sorry for your loss of a fine piece of workmanship.

Working with that wood is a challenge, and hard to find a piece that is straight enough to much of anything with, frown

Just because it broke doesn't mean it has to go in the trash. Now you have a "wall hanger" with a story. Like all good fishing or hunting stories it will get better with age. I have no doubt it was weakened when you bow punched that grizz in the face last year when it snuck up behind you while you were field dressing the deer everyone in 6 counties knew as T-rex.

I'm definitely not tossing the pieces. Those pieces are going in the hobby room and will be remembered forever.

If you’re not breaking bows, you’re not making bows. Start diving!
