Drags work but you need to pick your spots. Will need more stakes than drags. By a bunch. lots of trappers here use disposables.

My drags have 8-10 foot of chain. If I use one its pre hooked. Not many places you can bury a drag here that its a good idea. Even in western states in heavy mesquite or oak brush a coyote can sometimes go a long ways. Deer season here the ground might be froze. Drag marks are not easy to find in this part of the world when its not froze. Almost impossible when it is.

oh yeah....never thought of possums..never caught one. lol You will. Be careful fleshing one. Easy to over scrape. A lot like skunks. If you want to tan one.

I figure your first trip to trap in Kansas will help you up the possum learning curve and PDQ.
There are some pockets of extremely sandy places like say Reno County. Be careful staking there, I've both trapped and built miles of fence there. That sand moves and its actually very frequently. My answer was drags on all sets that might see a cat or coyote (read any set I built after I finished taking out the possums)

It seems about every video you see they have perfect dry dirt for sifting over your traps, no need for waxed dirt, antifeeeze or anything else. Coyotes seem dumb as bricks there too. Robert Waddell sure makes it look easy
