Any of you trad/primitive archery guys happen to grow your own stuff for arrow shafts and if so what do you grow ? Would like to try to get a little patch of river cane possibly but apparently that crap is super hard to get established. Supposed to be one kind of bamboo that's really good but can't remember it . Anyhow just wondering as as usual.
O and yes I do have some cedar and different spined carbon shafts coming in soon grin just kinda stuck on broad head selection. Simmons and zwickies are main two companies right now but thats something else lol

Tonkin bamboo is what you are after.

I am surrounded by red osier dogwood growing wild. No need to grow my own.

We use wild rose up here and it's all over the place so no need to grow it myself.

Dog faced pony soldier and proud of it!

Not arrow material but I am growing some osage orange to make bows. Dogwood is too plentiful around me to bother growing it.

I dont grow it, I find it easier to locate patches of dogwood and wild rose to cut from each fall while im out hunting or trapping.

When I grow up I want to be a real mountain man.

I just get river cane from the creek Bank. Tonkin cane is supposed to be better, but I always use what grows around here.

Cattail makes good arrow shafts too. That's what I used when I was a kid.

Willow works. So do Aspen shoots. A number of different woods will make good arrows, but the traditional ones are usually less work.
