Saw the 1st small flock of cedar wax wings (or berry birds as we call em down here) today. Seems early for them to be down here. Usually November.

North central mn on Mille lacs lake Saturday there were a number of arctic loons. I thought it early for them to be here.

We’ve had some at one of our bird feeders in the yard. They all perch in the River Birch and come down about 2-3 at a time to feed. Like you I thought it was actually cold (cooler for the Yankees) before they showed up down here.

They seem to be highly nomadic in search of food. My guess is with the fires this year in Canada we will see several species of birds showing up in unusual places or out of season locations.

Didn't consider the wildfire's effect....you're likely correct.

Supposed to be a cold hard winter, super el Nino, or some say. Didn't think of the northern fires either, might have an effect also.

Beautiful birds. Their feathers look like they're painted on their bodies.

The first bottles of Coca Cola contained 3.5 grams of cocaine. That's how our grandparents were able to walk to school uphill both ways in the snow.

There were a couple at my feeder about two weeks ago for a couple days. Have not seen them in a week or so. I don't seem to ever have a resident pair or so but every year in the fall some show up.

I enjoy them but the only time I see them and it's typically a pair- is when my mulberries ripen.

Supposed to be in the 30’s for lows here this weekend Patrick.
I’ve noticed quite a lot of early migrations occurring. Swallows, redwings, shorebirds. Earlier than normal anyway.

Flocks of cedar waxwings have wiped me out strawberry -wise many times. The little pests don't care how many times a shotgun blast goes off. Undeterred.

A few years back and about this time of the month I was in our driveway cleaning up the boat to put away for the year when a flock of those guys came into an old cedar tree alongside where I was working. In less than an hour I think they took every berry off that tree and were gone. Always makes me wonder how they knew to target that tree from whatever height they were flying.

Growing up in Harvey N.D. The baseball complex was wrapped with Russian Olive tree and every tree had a dozen or so in them. When they whipped out all the olives they were gone. It was a bird watchers paradise.

I’ve seen those trees in the roughest remote places in the west. They must have been a favorite of homesteaders to bring along.

I haven’t seen them in years.

When I was a kid they would come into the yard and eat the chokecherries.

In the fall on their way south, flocks of them stop at my flowering crab tree at the lake.
Great photo, Swamp Wolf.

I downloaded an app called the Merlin Bird ID. It is very cool. When I am hunting and hear a bird I am not familiar with I record it and it instantly ids it. I am adding up a list of all the birds where I hunt
