No photos yet but just got the news that my son harvested a nice Canadian moose in N.W. B.C. near the Yukon border south of Whitehorse. Excited to here more. This is a really remote area near a place called Willow Lake,B.C. It is fly in on float plane only access and satellite phone only which his friend has but not him.
This may not seem like much of a story to some but to me because I grew up hunting, fishing and trapping since the age of 5 it is special. My younger of 2 sons, he never was a hunter and at the age of 28 this is his first animal he ever harvested. Yes he loves the outdoors and had a fishing pole in his hand at the age of 3.But he loved wild animals and really was not into it at all. I let him decide what he wanted to do and never forced anything on him. He has always made his own choices. When he was a senior in high school I drew a once in a lifetime Shiras moose permit. One day during the season I said do you want to take a few days off from school and go with me. He agreed. Not sure why and never though to ask him. Well we found a nice bull about 6 years old and although it was not a monster I though to myself what a perfect opportunity so I filled the tag. As he stood guard over the area from grizzlies while I cleaned the bull we loaded it up and went on our way.
So when the opportunity came to go on a moose hunt with a friend's dad from college I said it might be a good time and he should go. He loves to camp, hike and is an eagle scout. He said to me, "well I get to go camping and not work my butt off" which he does. He picked out his own used Weatherby rifle which was left handed. We sited in his rifle with some challenges but he hung in there. Nothing to do with his ability but the equipment. After three shots when he got the scope issue sorted out and he was dead on 2 inches high at 100 yards. I thought he's ready. We are done.
So moose down!
