Even at the local sporting goods store Duke 330s are only 17 apiece. I know because my father in law just bought some this week for a 13 year olds birthday. If you are paying 235 a dozen you are getting ripped off.

Boco I have never bought a Belisle 330

At one time I was paying $11.60 for each Duke 330. And I'm betting dealer cost Is even lower.

If they aren't a trapping store, they do weird things to sell traps. I bought a case of 160 dukes from rural king for 3$ a trap. I was sure the price tag was wrong when I saw it.

I don't think I've ever bought a 330 new. I have half a dozen Duke 330s that I got pretty much new, but if I recall correctly I traded a guy something for them (I don't recall what) and only about half of them had ever been set. I've bought various other traps new, but not 330s. I just happened to see the price tag on those new traps this week and it stuck in my mind, because I thought, "that isn't a bad price for a local store."

For a long time, I've wanted to upgrade to Belisles (fully realizing they're not for everyone, some people prefer Dukes and that's fine). I remember a thread on here a while back that was talking about how Belisles are superior traps if you're willing to spend the extra money, but they really shine in the smaller to mid-sizes, like 120s, 160s, 220s, etc. I guess I was under the impression that, sometimes, the 330 Belisles had a tendency to bend or warp or something. Maybe something about a little too much power, if I remember right? I wasn't going to look into Belisle 330s but now this thread has me re-thinking that option. Anybody have any thoughts regarding this?

Zero closure + fat beaver=something has to give way. Unless it's spring steel or hot rolled and tempered the metal will take a bend. But that same ability to bend means it can be bent back with a few love taps.

The older belisle 330s were worse for bent jaws than the newer ones.
Proably why you dont get bent jaws on the savs is that they have two braces between the double jaws.

Most of my 330’s I’ve acquired used, mainly north woods and victors. I normally use them below ice and knock on wood I have very few trap that are tripped with out a beaver (or stray muskrat) so I can’t complain. I have recently acquired some new MB 1216 and those things imo are very nice and if they were cheaper I’d have a lot more, also have some rb 1022’s and those also have they’re place

I wouldn't buy a bridger bodygrip if I had to. If you want to save money buy the duke mags, otherwise buy the belisle. They'll both get it done! I bet you catch more fur in the 18 dukes you could buy for the price of 12 belisles...

I agree they are worth the extra money unless you are going to set them where there is a high possibility of theft.

I also am a big fan of Belisle traps. And as Boc0 pointed out, the older ones indeed could bend on the Jaws. New ones have not been an issue for me. Beaver and otter have typically expired on the spot. And I think the Belisle 280 is possibly the best otter trap made.
Have held beaver by tails and feet, and know trappers that have held wolverine by feet, and one by the tail!
As for Bridger body-grips, they are by far my least favorite.

Just doing what I want now.

That’s all very interesting information, thank you for the responses. Is there a way to tell the newer ones from the older ones that had some bent jaws in bigger sizes?

I think they went to a slightly bigger diameter rod for the jaws on the newer 330's,but not positive about that.
Maybe they tempered them a little.

I’ve never understood how duke can call there 330s a 330.Duke 330s are only 3/8” taller than a victor 280.This is why I boycott duke-sorry duke lovers. My two cents.
