I prefer a wood stock on all long guns. Really like a high gloss finish in good walnut but high gloss doesnt lend itself well to pushing bushes and briars. Have a couple with synthetic stock but almost always grab the wood stock.

It depends on what I want it for . There are a lot of different uses and a lot of different stocks to accommodate those needs. I would hate a target style heavy stock on a rifle I am making out to still hunt. My Mod 94 winchester is no good for shooting bench rest matches with. But it is a joy to carry in the woods and gets the job it was meant to do done. I just planted my M1A into an archangel adjustable stock that feels very comfortable to shoot but a bear to carry around for a day. So you are asking a question that can not be answered without some detail of what its intended use is. How long is a piece of string exactly ??

Checkered walnut for me. I have a couple of plastic guns but they are just tools and I am not attached to them.
I have nothing clever to put here.

Nicely figured walnut, classic lines, no Monte Carlo or other cheek-piece.
Don't like artificial stocks--though I own a few--or stocks with holes in them.

Jim Highly figured walnut is the worst idea ever for a hunting or a target rifle. But if one spends most of their time inside counting money with their soft hands, I guess that a pretty piece of furniture would be appealing to that kind of guy.
