Does anyone know how the weather has affected the elk population in north west Colorado?

80% winter kill in parts of NW Colorado, 60% closer to Steamboat Springs.

Todd, I've seen a total of (4) elk this summer, used to see hundreds. When they begin to bunch up for the winter I'll let you know how many. Unfortunately our winter kill appears to be way more than 60% in Steamboat Springs. The valley golf course used to have 100-200 grazing every night late last summer when there was tender green irrigated grass to be had, now zip. One of the local butchers took in 292 elk last year during archery and muzzle loading season, (22) this year.

Wow I heard it was bad but not that bad that’s going to take a while to recover

Heard NW hit hard.
I've got 24 pts, probably won't live long enough to
Pull a tag there now.
Might need to.weld an O2 rack on my walker..

I've got the max number of points for Moose, Bighorn sheep, and Mt. Goat in Colorado. I'm researching 4x4 electric wheelchairs now because I'll need it by the time I draw. I think it's somewhere in the high twenties of preference points for all those critters. My mules will be dead and gone by the time I draw, If I live long enough. Same with my Wyoming points now with the new point system.

I hunted NW Colorado for many years around the Craig area. I quit about 4 years ago. But, some of the guys I hunted with continued to go. This year they couldn't get a license as the past winter kill was the worst they have ever experienced in that area. Due to heavy snowfall causing the problem.

It's all OK, our Governor made the comment there are plenty of livestock in the National Forest. Even if the Elk and Deer are gone. He's a well known animal rights activist, as is his Husband Marlon Reis.
