Anyone submerge their entire set up or trap, chain, and super stakes? Its not that I am concerned about protecting the stake ends, but rather I'm getting lazier. It would be faster to just dunk all the works into the wax and pull out when finished, but then again I don't want to spend 2 days augering out the stake ends where wax has solidified. If there's a plug of wax in the end, will it cause the driver to stick on and then be a PITA to get it dislodged?

I'm bored and was wonering. Thanks for any input.

Don’t do it. The wax left in the super stakes makes removing the driver dang near impossible. I’ve actually pulled stakes back out of the ground still attached to the driver due to the wax left in. Much easier to jest leave the stake hang over the side of the wax bucket.

Thanks Tony. That's what I figured. Don't want to sabotage myself. Have a good one.

I was thinking about how I would wax when I convert back to super stakes and weld everything together- quickly decided that I would just run the wire through the S hook or link of chain just before the stake end and when I drop the traps into the wax, make sure that the stake ends are above the wax so they don't fill up

Do you think if you gave the driver a twist before removing then the driver would break free of stake? I waxed mine, had to make sure I drained excess wax when removed from pot. Have only driven a few on them but no problems so far.

No luck with doing it that way. If your driver has mushroomed enough to cause it to jamb, no amount of twisting will pull it out. Wax in the Super Stakes can cause more problems than it solves. Clean up the ends of your drivers at the beginning of the season helps but sometimes that doesn't even help.

Common sense is a not a vegetable that does well in everyone's garden.

As previously stated it will make your driver get stuck and profanity will follow.

I wax with a thin layer of wax on top of water, so I don't have an issue with the stake filling with wax. I do have an issue at times with drivers sticking in the anchor, but have never noticed a difference between waxed and unwaxed for that, usually it is a mushroomed or bent driver tip. I could see it being an issue though if you wax in a pure wax pot.

Their are ways to rig your anchors and traps so excess wax does not interfere with their operation and still coat everything with wax!!!
# 9 wire works well for making a dipping rig!

I wax entire set up no problems. Don’t let your ends hang to where the wax can’t run out from inside the anchors. If you got enough wax in there to stick to the driver one it wasn’t ready to come out of the wax or two was hung up to where the excess couldn’t drip off.

I did it and didn't have any problems. hit/turn your driver around a bit before you pull it out. Also give your traps a good shake when you pull them out of the wax.

I have been waxing the whole set up for years with no problems. Make sure wax is hot enough before dipping. I wire up 4 traps/anchors at a time dip them and shake them vigorously when they are removed from the wax. Make sure your driver has a decent taper to it and don't use it to put a pilot hole in before running your anchor in. Any burrs on the end of your driver may cause the driver to stick in the anchor.

Too late, already rebundled and excluded the stake ends. Maybe next year.

Don’t see a need to wax them anyway…….looks like you are ready to put a lot of steel in the ground! Good luck!
