Hey everyone, been very busy out here building the cabin. Just got on the roof beams couple days ago while it was dumping snow on us.

Basically done everything by myself except for some help with the roof beams, very excited to be done peeling

Caught a few beavers so far, trying to make beaver prosciutto lol

What are you using for chinking?

Years ago, I re-chinked a 3 story log house. Used big tubes of Liquid Nail! No kidding. Had some shrinking, but just fell back and filled any holes.
Did it all, (probably 100 large tubes), with a regular big orange caulk gun.
No wonder I have severe carpal tunnel!

Just doing what I want now.

AV, you know they sell liquid nail in buckets? I think 5 gallon ones. A friend of mine rechinked his 100+ year old log cabin using it, but he bought it in the buckets.

How would you apply clean lines between the logs without making a mess using, (I assume), a bucket of the stuff with a trowel?

I'm not sure, I just saw it before and after, I wasn't actually there to watch it being done. I do know that a friend and his wife came over and helped, because they had done theirs a few years before. And he said the wife was great, but he would have preferred the guy didn't help because he spent more time cleaning up after him than he would have spent doing what he accomplished in the first place.

I have used reloadable large caulk guns out of the big 5-gallon pails. Yes, it works fine, but the cleanup is tedious. I was using Perma-Chink. Much cheaper htan buying the loaded tubes.

Also a huge thank you to isnarewolves for the caribou hides that we got over the summer. My wife and I brain tanned all of them over the summer and my wife recently finished sewing up our son Otters parka and our youngest son Omacîws’ caribou envelope

Otters parka is brain tanned caribou, and mountain goat

Omacîws is brain tan caribou, lined with beaver and coyote and then a fox ruff

My wife is working on our winter parkas right now, will upload pictures of them when they are done as well

My wife made me a caribou parka but it has to be -30 or colder to wear it or I sweat to much. Some advice, wear something orange over your parka so you don't get shot..........................

Well I finally finished the cabin.

Roof is on, floor is in, bed is built, counter is built, 95% of the cabin is chinked.

My wife actually let me out the door to go set some traps today hah.

It’s a good but weird feeling having the cabin be done. You stress and concentrate on something for so long and then it gets done and you’re just kinda lost, looking for the next thing lol.

The next thing is finally putting out my line. I just made 5 dozen more wolf snares, I’m pretty excited to put them to use.

Also have a bunch of bait that I need to get ready. My wife told me that the wall tent that we used to live in is now my trap tent, before she wouldn’t let me blend up trap bait or bring it inside the tent haha

Nice timing getting the cabin finished up before the first cold spell hits. Good luck on the line!

Nice work. very nice parkas also. You really should get some tin or stone behind that wood stove, also a sand box or tray under the wood stove. Don't want to see all your effort and money go up in smoke in the middle of winter.
