According to my grandma who passed in 72, Texans

we're bout as worthless as teats on a boar Hog!

Now mind you, my grandma grew up a share cropper

In the delta of Mississippi, they didn't waste no food.

Take doves, grandpa and I were sent to the dove fields

to kill doves, we would have rather been on a Latouno pond caching bream

Grandma was tired of fish, it's all we had for supper during the summer.

So off we go, I was just a youngin with my grandpa, we killed our limit of doves

and I shot some yellered speakled bird that grandpa put in his pocket

aways from our doves as we left the field.

That was the easy and fun part of the day however

Grandma knew when we would get home, she had a big pot

of boiling water over the wood outside, grandpa and I had to

pluck them doves of their feathers and any other bird their

ignorant grandson would shoot, shot gun shells were not cheap

and every bird counted.

After plucking, grandma would split them birds and brown them

skin and all, after the birds were browned she would make a

rouxout of the bacon fat and bird grease, make a gravy and return the birds to cook tender

and servers over rice.

So why did grandma think Texans were brain dead ???

My grandpa was born a Texan, he was taught that a

dove was to be breastfed and the rest thrower away

Them Texans got more money than brains,

That's my grandma talking not me smile

I never plucked a dove but I have breasted and eaten plenty. I guess that makes me as worthless as any Texan!

My grandma always told us if we were only taking the breast and weren't cooking the tweet from a birds beak it was wasteful.

That's the way most folk do, nothing at all wrong with it.

You folks miss the whole intent of this thread, it's not about what's right or wrong

It's the difference in a Era, Savell being who he is I believed

could understand, it was intentional as fun of a long ago time

If grandpa saw how we butcher a hog now he’d raise holy heck for sure because he used everything but the squeal

Interesting. I guess we're pretty fortunate up north here. Don't recall hearing of any of the old timers eating such things. Swans, beaver, moose nose, jack fish and suckers. My grandfather did eat a coyote once. He told me it tasted like a wet dog smells.

My dad's ol buddy died at 42 and they blamed it on squirrel brains which he ate several times a week.
