I bought this on an online auction today. I didn't want it. It came with a Norlund Hatchet and axe head I wanted. I also got a lot of old steel files, wrenches, hacksaw blades, a pipe warmer (I can use on my well head), window sealant, a scraper, a drain snake, small metal rods, a hand drill, plastic storage bin and two old fishing reels with it. Stuff sells cheaper when they put a bunch of nonrelated stuff together but you get stuff you don't need or want. What is it?

The only things I can seeing it being likely used for is to clean pipes or chimneys or as some sort of filter. The metal appears to be brass.

I only paid $18.54 for the whole bin, with premium and tax. That's cheap for a Norlund hatchet and a loose axe head.

The plastic reminds me of something food grade, maybe a filter or pipe cleaner for fry oil or something similar.

Life sure is tough when you don't learn from the mistakes of others.

Here's the Norlund hatchet and reels. I think the reels are fairly old. They are both made by Bronson.

Keith,
It is an evaporative media pad for a furnace-mounted, drum type, bypass humidifier. The shaft was attached to a small motor and rotated in a shallow pan of water adding humidity to the duct system as air was blown across it. I haven't seen that style in about 40 years - most evaporative media for those type of humidifiers is foam now.
Best regards,
Mike Tucker

That explanation is a far cry about my IQ rating. smile Thank you, Mike. I will have to turn my hat sideways when we meet.

I believe I could use that gizmo for filtering urine in a bucket. At a low RPM of course.

I had a green hornet reel in the late 40s early 50s. Used it for many years until I tried to catch a blue fish with it chumming off the Shrewsbury Rocks. all gone in an instant. bye bye......jk

Thanks Mike. I would never have guessed that.

Did they use that kind of metal because it's toxic to bacteria?

That Green Hornet reel moves very smoothly. That New Yorker reel feels like there is grit in it.
