I was under the impression that you just couldn't bait them anymore.
You should probably check your local regs before you listen to me.

Overcooked frog legs ain't fit to eat either. Cook them just right and they are hard to beat. Same with rattlesnake.

I agree Matt. I once read about an early 1800s safari in Africa and several of the porters got bit by Mambas and Boomslangs hanging out of trees along the trail.

My very skin tried to crawl off of me and find a safe space under the bed. My turtle crawled back in his shell and I started missing mommy LOL.

You know the long this thread goes the happier I am that the only reptile that I have to worry about is a snapping turtle.

When I was stationed at Ft hood TX I bought 14 acres. There was a gravel road that ran thru it. My wife and I planted 12 pecan trees and was packing water to them. One evening a rattler crawled out of the sage brush and crossed the road. It felt like a speed bump when I ran over it. Man that thing didn't even slow down, just kept on slithering thru the desert. They are pretty tough.

They take forever to die and can both take and inflict a lot of pain b4 they do.

Pro tip: if you are harvesting one for the skin and / or meat- stick them in a good gunny sack and let them chill out in the freezer. They are like calf fries, easier to process when they are about half thawed out.
