Question for the ax guys. I've found several old axes with my metal detector. The blades on all looks like they wore them out. My question is do most axes even old have a Maker's Mark somewhere or were axes made by blacksmiths? Trying to figure out if I should try to electrolysis these Less than half of axes have makers marks. A lot of old blacksmiths did mark the tools they made and are pretty well known. I have been able to find details about some of the old blacksmiths, who made axes I have, that were made from the later 1700s on. I only like to minimally clean old axes and then oil them well with mineral oil. There's a fair number of guys that will take an old axe head back to like new condition, rehang it and use it. I like my antiques to look antique. I have a great many axes, adzes, hatchets and cleavers. I want to make a really nice display with them during my convalescence. There's some good, very active axe groups on Facebook. Some of the guys can take an old, beat up axe and make it look much better, without ruining the patina. Some of the guys are phenomenal at making replacement handles. The shared knowledge base is very impressive. Keith

Lorena Bobbitt used an 8 inch knife to cut off her husband's member. Lizzie Borden may be who you are thinking of. She was acquitted for the murder of her parents, despite the girl's jump rope poem about her.

Thanks Kieth C I may just keep as is. You're welcome. Some of the guys on Axe Addicts, Axe Restoration and Collecting, Axe Junkies and the Axe Market, all on Facebook, can probably identify what you found if you post pictures there. They could also tell you if you should clean them up or leave them alone. There's a surprising number of axes that sell for well over $2000.00. Keith
