About once a year or so, am tasked with driving spousal unit to northern WI to visit relatives. That usually means I-39 and later US 51. From memory, one crosses the river 5 or 6 times. Always looks like a decent river to fish for walleyes, smallmouth, maybe catfish and who knows else.

Is that right.......or no?

I am eating catfish tonight that came out of the WI river it was a tournament winning flat head , it was gifted to me

yes it has all of those and Crappie , Drum , northern and Bowfin , I am not familiar with spots to go I haven't been in a few years.

basically if the Upper Miss has it the lower Wi has it
there are some shore fishing spots I am sure but a boat really opens up your options.

I would think a dream trip would be a week's float. Camping on gravel bars.

Lots of good fishing in the WI River.

And, it's cleaned up a lot since I was growing up in the 70's. Still, I wouldn't eat anything out of there.

All the species you named are present and in most cases abundant. You can also add muskies to your list as well. They go on feeding runs in the fall. Nothing like boating or catching fish that have been living in current their whole lives!

your going to have to settle for sand , very very little gravel on the lower WI all sand the the WI dells are all sandstone and the Dells divide the upper and lower WI.

there are some good islands , did a little camping on the WI some of the islands have been above water long enough they have good tree cover , technically the army corp owns almost all of them, Blackhawk Island is owned by the state of WI and is a research island , been on it a few times because 4-H is part of the UW so we got to take trips to the island
there are a few others that have something on.
if they don't want you on it it tends to be fairly clear.

the small islands that can flood or sand bars just be ready to move quick if it starts storming it can rise quick.
