Last night there was a non heated debate at my son's game. Batter hits ball 3rd and SS try to catch the pop half way between 3rd and left. The ball either bounced off the glove or the ground then shots into foul. Initially played continued until batter reaches 2nd then ruled foul. Here's some screenshots.... Trying to catch the pop ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2023/10/full-40155-192304-screenshot_20231017_194830_gallery.jpg) Ricocheting into foul ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2023/10/full-40155-192305-screenshot_20231017_194958_gallery.jpg)

If he touched the ball in fair territory and then it bounced foul, it's a fair ball. LL Rule 2 Definitions - Fair and Foul Ball.

I guess the plate umpire wasnt sure if the ball was touched or not? If the ball is touched by the fielder, the location of the ball in reference to the foul line(not the actual marked lines as contrary to popular belief the lines dont mean a thing) is all that matters. If thne ball was judged not to be touched, lands on fair territory beyond 3rd the goes into fair territory we have a fair ball. If judged to not be touched and lands in foul territory its a foul ball.
A good PU, base umpire of theyre on the lines, will never say "fair ball". You do not have to get in a hurry to declare a foul ball because you cant take it back. Incorrect. The foul lines are always in fair territory unless the ball bounces foul before passing 1st & 3rd.

Theyre supposed to be but they have no meaning in regarding to the rules,we call between bases, not what the drunk coach did before the game.

You must have different rules. Travel ball? Nope just regular usa little league USA Rules? There are approx. 16 different " Little League sets of Rules". Williamsport LL is the only official authority for LL. . . e.g. Little League World Series. Little League is defined as an "age group".

Thanks that's what I was thinking. If bounced "in play" past 3rd and goes past foul line (bouncing or rolling) should be fair ball right? That's always been my understanding. If touched and goes out regardless if past 3rd or not it's fair, right? That's always been my understanding from playing and watching for decades. Why wait until the batter is approaching 2nd to call foul unless the home plate ump was cheating. Right? In that picture the PU might not be sure if the ball was touched by the fielder or not. That would be the reason for the delayed call. If it was clear that be ball landed in fair territory, and it wasnt touched then was ruled foul then the PU needs a talkin' to.

Nope, all the same. Nope. Baseball has a imaginary line that is drawn between first and third that if ball lands past it , its fair. In softball, that ball can spin back and be foul. Baseball if it spins back after hitting that point, its fair.

I don't know where you get your rules at so show me where they're written. Thats the NFHS baseball rule. OBR could or could not be interpreted the same way Those are Fed Rules. Not LL Rules. PS, I won't do Fed anymore, they're more screwed up than LL.

All views are moot...can't see clearly down the 3rd base line. Have to agree with the ump.
