Remembered shooting stuff other then paper is fun too, haven't shot a can in a while so brought the Wylde and the 5.55 out to do a experiment like I used to when I was a kid laugh not super scientific but entertaining
Some water filled cans at 200yd 68gr Hornady BTHP going 2680 on the top Hornady 50gr Vmax going 3100fps on the bottom

Makes me wonder what would happen if you can slip one of those Vmaxs been a deep or hogs ribs and into the hear lung area ....then again not the kinda (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) I take ona hog anyway so who knows. Had a buddy so it with a 30 something gran varmint grenade I load for him. Pin prick hole and the chest cavity looks like jelly, crazy

Might actually be able to kill something come December if got everything I want, gotta love being patient...

can't say on a hog or with v-max
but the .224 SPBT Hornady slipped in a deer's ribs makes lung tissue jelly the entire chest cavity was bruised

itty bitty hole in , zero holes out , deer ran a bloodless 20 yards and went down just our of sight

that is the problem no blood trails just organ jelly

For little hogs under a feeder that would work fine. I don't believe in wounding critters so that .270 with the fancy looking cast bullets would make a good 2nd shooter from the same blind.

I'm curious, do your small hogs butcher well or are they like Wannabe and Swamp Wolfs?

I see Ted Nugent shoots deer with a .223 and drops them. I always wonder if he was head shooting. He never says.

There are a numerous amount of people who would not use a .223/5,56 for deer.

but hey, during the depression my dad used a .22 to kill deer.

I thumped a big ol doe with my 204 a few years ago. 32gr vmax factory load.

Broadside lung shot. Bullet went in and jellyfied an area about half the size of a basketball. Buddy was sitting next to me and used his 204 about 5 min later on a similar size doe and had the same effect.

This was a late season doe only hunt, out of an elevated box on a field edge, with snow for tracking if things didn't go as planned.

Wouldn't want to clip a shoulder or have to make a bad angle shot on a deer with a cal like 223 or that. YMMV... Maybe with a monolithic bullet like a barnes or something it would penetrate through tougher bone or more tissue?

What I'm talking about is a 69 or 75 grain HP with a head shot! It needs to be tested this year.

The time is coming when we have to use what is available.

if you stay off the shoulder the SPBT 55gr 223 will almost make it out the other side

the 64gr power points do some times make it out

have a friend who hunts almost exclusively 223 with 64gr power points he picks his shots and it hasn't been an issue yet

Ya know the holes around the side of them crocks are in there to let out a mans dignity.

Using varmint bullets on hogs would make me worry when hitting a rib and they just blow up skin deep. Barnes TSX work well in the 223 though 62 grains if I remember right ..... would have to look at the box to be sure

I shot a 62gr TSX on a mature, corn fed, MN doe. Shot was a double lung at 50yds. She ran ~40yds and piled up. That TSX had a .22 entry wound and the exit wound was about 3/4”. It was lightly rainy all that day and I was able to track her blood trail. Not the greatest choice but i think those solids can punch above their weight class.
