Sorry , but IMHO good canning lids are a thing of the past.
Years ago , I was looking on E BAY for AA 941 canners.
Actually looking for any old National canners , or parts( gaskets) for them.
Ran across lids for sale .
Ball lids , the ones with the plaid for wide mouth lids and the fruit on white lids for regular jars.
I saw the price of lids going up, so did some checking into the lids.
At that time the boxes for 12 lids were running around 89 cents to $ 1 .39 .
Figured they were running close to 10 cents each.
Saw an ad that had them in bulk , around 4 cents each, but had to buy 500 @ a time.
This was when canning was making a come back.
Ball changed the thickness of their lids and went with a plain or just Ball on the lids.
The rubber sealant was also less than before.
I guess someone got very large qualities of the discontinued lids, and sold them in bulk.
Only got 1,000 of the regular lids , but got 4,000 of the wide mouth.
Gave my daughter 500 of the regular lids and 1,000 of the wide mouth.
Am very glad I got them , as they can be reused more than once.
Also the pint and a half jars are wide mouth.
Love those jars .
Maybe my kids will sell them cheap , when I'm gone , but my kids are set for life.
As long as the lids are kept in a cool dry place , they can last longer than I will in my whole life time.
Shame the lids are so cheaply made today.
Heard of a new company in Amish country in Ohio , that makes a better lid than Ball , or any of the older lid companies.
I'll see if I can find out more on them.
