fast and light makes holes in

moderate and heavier makes holes in and out as long as your not worrying about sewing holes , 2 holes is the direction I would lean.

I try and find one bullet that I can do multiple things with so that I have one set of data to keep.

some people have a bullet for this and a bullet for that but sighting in all the time seems like a better way to make a mistake which I have done switching bullets I made a correction for the heavier bullet , the scope didn't apparently track all the way, I didn't confirm it with enough rounds because I was running short on them.
and I was shooting low come opening day , I got deer but I lost deer , the ones I got had to be shot again I don't want to repeat so now I make sure to confirm with more than one group any correction to zero I made
I had fired 3 rounds to save ammo and they looked good , but it was not.

Makes sense. This rig is my newest project and my idea was to make this my main coyote thumper. Top it with a daytime/nighttime night vision scope. My kids aint old enough to deer hunt yet here in MN so I ain’t worried about a load for that. And i got a 6.5CM i think should do the trick when that time comes.

Bullet construction, then speed.

Sound wisdom.
The over the counter rounds I’ve listed for myself work very well for me. Admittedly my usage of the .223 caliber is in its infancy but I’ll be doing my darndest to change that starting in a week or so.
That being said my objective has always been lowering the repopulation candidacy pool, I’ve never shot any load type with fur preservation a factor in the choice. I know that’s a bit contrary to many fur takers here.
I would add this. Coyotes are tough and no matter the round type edge shots in particular are a bad proposition. Heck plenty of center mass shots don’t go well. Coyotes are magical that way.
To the OP.
Boone is accomplished, Bucksnbears, MTbowhunter, and others I’ve met here and elsewhere are darn good coyote guys as well but to be honest you can give any of these guys a handful of rounds, with any kind of bullet and they are going to bring you back fur. They will adapt and get the deal done, knowing their limitations, knowing what’s important to the endeavor, kinda old school thinking if you will. They will HUNT coyotes then hit the trigger. Generally works well. Lots of people seem to get that progression a bit sideways when marketing minutiae gets a grip these days.

This I prefer one bullet for multiple task. I won't bother changing bullets and re zero. At that point I just have a different gun for that purpose that stays sighted in with its load.

But generally anything I load will be primarily for deer and will easily kill varmints. Varmint loads are not the best for deer so I prefer to use ammo that will be effective on the largest thing u may shoot with tha given gun.
