I am considering buying this coal stove. I haven’t a clue on the valu and don’t want to short the guy. Any info would be appreciated.
There is another thrice as large and equally as well restored I’m considering. This one came from a bank office in SD, the large one heated a train station in SD.

It's a coal stove, Osky. I had one virtually identical to it some years back. If you look at the casting on the inside of the bottom door you will likely see "Made in Taiwan". It's a perfectly good little heater.

Yep, coal stove be a good investment if nothing else.

To me it was acceptable if low sulphur

Any kind of heat you use that burns a natural resource will have its own smell. Even propane has its burn smell. Coal is a fine heat and with proper installation is good or better than wood.

If that coal is easily accessible.

I did a quick search and found Montana sits on the largest coals reserves in the country. It's bituminous, a softer, dirtier coal than anthracite. Some stoves were designed to burn either but I can't say about yours.

I pay around $500 per ton for Pennsylvania anthracite. It's a hard coal that burns long and hot. Trucking costs drove the price through the roof but it's still an economical alternative to heating oil.

I rarely get any odor but it can be dangerous if you do. Carbon monoxide detectors are a must.

Around here it is. We still live like a 3 world country and there is a lot of coal burned here. We have mines go get a truck load for wintah.

I recently paid $1,000 for this one. It's basically the Holy Grail of coalstoves. If the guy would have held out he probably could have gotten $3,000 for it. The one you're looking at would be far less desirable to people who know coalstoves. I'm guessing $300-$400.

I have a couple coal stoves like these, just wondering if there is a place online where a person can find out their value. They are very similar to the one you posted Posco.

I have a Glenwood Oak 30 I paid $600 for and restored myself. They're a serious heater.
