Pre baiting anything with large bait can be productive.

Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

If you’re setting on sign I don’t think it’s necessary for coon and you can use the time more productively elsewhere.

You can bait the area a week earlier to get them to come to a spot.

This. If you're in the right place there is no need.

To have any real effect, prebaiting raccoons needs to be done on sign, specifically semi-established travel routes.
Outside of established travel routes, raccoons are ramblers, travelling far and wide to fill their empty stomachs, which they are ultimately a slave to. Randomly placed bait piles will be about as effective as trying to herd cats.

Ask any deer hunters that bait for deer.
Coon are thick at those feeders.
Pre baiting can up your numbers if done right.

It's a big waste of money, time and effort. Especially in this market. Spend that time finding more locations where the coons are already going.

The only time I did it was in my yard- I put 2" PVC in the ground and filled it with koi food- I then swapped it for a DP as the season was underway. Catch one and skin one- as soon as I had a prime coon- traps came out of the truck.

I'm down here trying to figure out a way to NOT catch coons.

It's Illegal to pre bait your sets In WI. A dead deer In the woods Is pretty natural. But a pile of fish or something that's not natural to the area may get the wardens attention.

I thought it’s only illegal if you get caught kind of like speeding lol
