I plan to make a nice one- here’s a prototype I started from a solid block as proof of concept. The next one should be easier. Has anyone tried it?

I had an uncle who used to carve them but that's been a few years.

know a gentleman that has hundreds of feet of woodchain on display in his living room draped over everything he has made over the yrs. also he carves tiny little replicas of hunting rifles an shotguns. never seen him sell anything or openly talk about his stuff. his detail on the guns is unreal

I have the ADHD but with work and family stuff I still seem to be perpetually short on time to do things I want to do after I do all the things I have to do

I see part of your secret in the way you said that "They're pouring cement " I bet if I had someone besides Me ,Myself and I doing the work I might get more other stuff done.

I am a little jealous of the clean garage I may be the only person who knows a bomb didn't go off in my garage

I did take yesterday afternoon off and go hunting leaving all the other work to sit

I call it Therapy and no one has questioned it yet.

Have one stored away my Father made with a swivel and balls carved inside a sq. wooden box on the end.
White Cedar was his preferred wood for this.
He said easier to carve / whittle ?
My sister has one about 4-5 ft long with a singe chain top and three chains connected below .
Everything is one pc except the base that holds a planter shelve.
He spent many days carving / whittling at his workbench.
He talked often about doing this while working in the CCC camps of his Era.
Thx for the memories of that.

I have to ask, how many hours would 3 feet of that take to carve?

No idea, never kept track. Was something to keep myself occupied while sitting on a sand bag bunker, sweating my butt off!

I was working on it off and on for I bet 15 hours, I put a coat of poly on other projects and just carve while it was drying... it takes a touch to separate the chains from each other- the next one will be a lot better

Newhouse 114 used to carve traps in Ivory if that is who are thinking about. There was one that did I think a jump trap using wood as well

I have one now that is half of a five foot chain I made for a friend. The chain was too long so I cut it in half. I made a spring clip for one end and a carabineer for the other, and now it is completely useless.
Zookeeper. If I knew how to post a pic, I would, or send the pic to someone else to post.
