Hey all.... just put together my wintertime camping set up today.... Using a pop up ice fishing insulated shelter. Got a couple things to do yet... make a support for my chimney from the pipe to the ground... outside the hut. And need to get some kind of fireproof material to put over my window around my chimney pipe triple walled baffle. Otherwise it's a quick set up and should be a lot of great times making camp wherever and whenever I want to on my wintertime adventures. Probably get a couple cheap runner rugs at wally world to put on the frozen ground. Ole Jeremiah Johnson never had it so good !! [Linked Image]

Interesting using a propane tank for a small wood burner !

You're right though , the mountain men would build a fire , dig a trench , fill it with hot ashes, and cover with dirt to sleep on..

The pop up ice shack is not flame retardant. I just got done ordering a fire retardant blanket which I will use to cover the window and cut a circle hole in it for my short triple wall pipe heat protector. The triple wall has air space between the outside two pipes. Air can move up and thru to the outside. I tried it tonite. The main chimney pipe was way too hot to touch. The outside pipe was cool enough where I could place my hand on it and leave it for a while. I will also have part of the blanket hanging between the stove and the pop up wall under the window. Although it will be 18" to 24" away. Should be good with the welding blanket. I am looking forward to using it !!!

Alaska Tent and Tarp makes a good, fireproof, fabric stove-jack.

It would probably be good to cover anywhere sparks could land with flame retardant.
