Thanks for the ride along, as always great film clip. You went 200 miles, how much fuel did you use? Are moose getting more scarce every year for you to have traveled so far? Where did you hit him for him to drop so fast*? Good shooting!!!........jk

Thanks for watching. The amount of fuels we used wasn’t as bad as most years, because we did a lot of floating and idling down river which saved us a bunch on gas. Usually that same trip we would burn about 60 gallons of gas but this time it was about around 50. Yeah it seems there are fewer than there used to be but everything up here is in cycles as long as we keep cow moose alive they will bounce back.

I shot him in the neck. Yeah the second round in the neck dropped him stone cold. We shoot them in the neck to minimize meat and internal organ damage. The organs are given away to elders, and if you hit them right there’s no running off just instant drop. Thanks and have a good one

It is a nice feeling to have a good store of meat all prepared. I agree on the cutting off the hydraulics, they drop and don’t run. I like my 300 Weatherby for such precision as well.

Glad the weather was good for the travel.

Thank you for the share, EG.

Is the moose numbers any better downriver? Did you really have Musk Ox permits? Ox have come south of the Brooks?
Congrats on the hunt!

Yeah it feels great to secure that meat. Oh yeah a 300 weatherly to the spine will for sure knock them flat. There was a good amount of wind the first 2 days but the morning we woke up to the bull it was calm and the clouds even parted. Awesome

Yeah all the way down by the coast on the Yukon I’ve heard they have had a boom in moose numbers. Not sure why. It’s an odd one with Musk Ox and subsistence harvest, with an elder so allowed. Yeah we have found their tracks within 2 miles of the village. That are very wary though. And I have only seen one in the flats above Venetie.
