since I can't find mine this year and it was a nothing special game hide anyway that lacked some of the pockets I would like to have

I started looking at a new vest I was already looking but not very seriously not really happy with the one I had.

they are not cheap but if I buy a good one hopefully one good one will last

Strap vest or vest becomes the first question
our early season tends to be 60+ for temps this sort of had me thinking strap vest

I do like the front load capability of the more traditional vest while I also like the pockets they add on some of the strap vests that are almost like a game vest and backpack

currently I push through a lot of brush and woods that may change as we get the dog trained up that makes me think the more back pack like vests might be an issue they seem like they are made for more open out west plains hunting where you need to carry a bunch of gear for a long day of hunting but aren't trying to push through multiflora rose and underbrush.

right now the vest that I am looking at the hardest is the Dan's Briar Game vest seems to have more pockets , the briar fabric and I like my Dan's brush buster chaps.
https://coonhuntersupply.com/collections/dans-clothing/products/dans-game-vest-brown-orange

I primarily hunt public ground so orange is a must in my mind even though not a legal requirement for bird hunting.
I wish Dan's had water bottle holders by each kidney they have them sewn on some of their other vests but not the game vests

which ever vest it will have to go over warm clothing for late season I don't wear that much so a typical vest hasn't been an issue

what are you wearing , what do you like or dislike , what features would you like to see in a vest?

I like to carry a few of the half liter water bottles currently as I drink them I push all the air out and put the cap back on that makes them not make noise and they are cheap and easy to keep a case at the truck.

I just got myself one from Dans .I will use it squirrel hunting with my mountain Feist . You will see there are two. I was recommended to get the one for upland as it’s not as hot to wear cause it has cotton where you see the brown. Otherwise both are the same vest made by the Amish in USA. I really like the quality of mine. One note they run small. I usually always wear large but was snug if I wanted a jacket under It. I sent it back exchanged for xl and it fits fine. They are high quality vests.

that was what had me thinking the other material.

the cotton canvas would definitely breath better than nylon probably be quieter also

Currently, this is my favorite. A minimum vest, but capable of carrying 5 grouse or 4 pheasants...plus water, shells, collar remote. No room for extra garbage I don't need.

Very light-weight and not hot to wear.

that does look nice , I really like the water bottle holders , water is probably the most used and accessed item while hunting for us especially early season.
our pheasant limit being 2 we don't need a tone of space for birds

I'm east coast and robustly heterosexual. Most of the covers we push don't take and hour and we're never too far from a vehicle. I'm a minimalist when it comes to bird hunting. A fleece orange vest and enough ammo to get me through a given patch. Tactical gear looks cool but I can't see trying to fight it when mounting my gun.

Well, when it comes to gay German tourist construction workers, you're the expert. It's about time you came out of the closet.

I had some of these same questions when I ask the folks at Dans. The only difference is where you see the brown .it’s more of a cotton canvas type material. The rest of the vest is made out of that brier proof stuff material. If you want a vest that you can use when it gets warmer out they both told me get the upland vest. It actually cost a little more too . I have not used it yet but will start here shortly. Has lots of places for water bottles, dog treats,a game bag that you can zip down and clean .i use a garmin so the D ring hooks are nice. So basically in this style you have 2 choices. One that all polyester that will not breath as well and one with some cotton duck that will keep you cooler. If you do get one definitely size up! If your hunting with a T shirt only it may fit with not much room.

I suppose it helps to have 2 liters of walking around beer one on either side as well as a good place to store your bag of pretzels

my issue with backpacks is they almost never fit me which has me a little concerned with the strap vest style also

I need a 3XL for my shoulders and they always seem to make back packs for a Large

since I haven't wrestled in 30 years my neck size is down to just 20 inches

also trying to really distribute the weight I do carry well

also pushing through brush getting caught up on stuff is a concern.

thanks , that is the way I am leaning , these strap vest types look nice but I got a bit of sticker shock when they are $300

things I want on me
shells 15 is good even if I seldom use more than 2-3
water a liter but probably more when the dog is trained or during training
dog lead
a small med kit mostly for the dog
compass
Garmin
headlamp
phone in a secure pocket
room to stuff my jacket and gloves if I get too warm

we don't typically get more than 1-2 miles from the truck

I have had the Filson Tin Cloth regular small game vest for about 10 years now. It’s just a basic vest with dual bellows pockets on the front that have shell loops built-in. It has a simple backload-only game pouch and a zippered inside security pocket that I really like for holding my keys and license.

I bought it mostly because I like their Tin Cloth brush-busters. I am I am on my second pair of brush busters now and will soon be on my third. The vest is holding up well.

It’s got 3 zippered compartments you really can’t see in pics. The front loader for like game is what I meant for extra water .I will take extra for my dog. I bring a dog lead little first aid kit too.I looked at all the other types too and came up to buy this one. Mine is mostly for squirrel hunting with my dog in the woods. Where I hunt we have lots of stuff and some long stickers i need to keep a out on those trees as I think will go through a ballistic vest.

Oh brother- no Savell will be photo shopping your faces into gay pipefitting pictures.

The Dans vest looks like something I would use.
