Thieving buggers were in the pond last night. Maybe 3 or 4 by the load of crap they kindly left for me on my levee. So next Tuesday I'm headed out in the woods for another camping trip. Three niter right near the pond. I'm bringing a 50 caliber. 17 hornet ruger, 7mm wearherby mag. Remington 12 pump. Smith and Wesson auto 12gauge. 357 colt pyton with an 8 inch barrel. A case of hand granades, 6 missile launchers. Night vision goggles. My looks like a clump of grass camo. And some sorta otter gland lure I think I may have gotten from Mr. Dobbins.
Lsu did a study. A big otter can eat 10 pounds of crayfish a night. Judging by the turds I believe it's 20 pounds. Anyhow. 3 otter spend the night feasting in your ponds like a bunch of cub scouts in a Dennys buffet. That's a big sack of crayfish a night. At 5 or 6 bucks a pound? That's a good reason to declare war. Soooooo, if those buggers come buffering every night for a month, we'll you get my love I have for otters. They might be cute but it don't impress me. And to think. 4 or 5 years back I would cuff them in mb 450s and turn then loose using 4 x4 piece of plywood because I felt sorry for the cutie pies. Only thing I have in my memory I cherished about otters in .y pond was one day I rode back there on my 4 wheeler and a big mom climbed out the pond and began running down the levee away about 50 feet from me. A few seconds later 2 very young cubs climbed out following here. One of her cubs was solid white. That memory I don't want to forget. All the rest? Die otters die.hope this finds you all well. God bless and stay safe.
ps, stay tuned for more otter hatred stories added to my diary in the coming days. I'm thinking of buying a gun boat with a machine gun mounted in the bow. A sack of crayfish a night, not this year
Pss been trying to download pics of my pond. Don't know how I'll ever push pole a.boat thru it to run traps. Between the thick rice and wild Johnson grass the stuff is over my head and looks thick enough to walk on it. May have to buy myself a tank

Here's a trick I've learned on how to increase your percentage of water trapping otters with legs holds. Set your traps deep. 6 to 12 inches under water. Not at the waters edge because you'll never catch them. Seems like they follow the bottom right before they climb out. If they're tipping your traps over. Like each morning I'd go and had 15 or 20 traps knocked over. Use a dummy crayfish trap. Cut a slot in the wire on the top chimney of your pyramid trap just big enough to slip a 110 conni in there. Never fails. Set that cage partially leaning over. They go to it quick because it's tipped some. When they try to go into the trap those Lil 110 do a number on them. I put a few last year out their misery. Also I took a few by wiring 4 450s to the outside of the trap. Just so the traps are below the surface. When they try to tip your crayfish trap over they must push on it. I caught a few this way also last year

My feelings exactly when I found a half eaten channel floating in my pond! Keel em! 110s, really?

I seem to catch mine in footholds set for beavers, to me 110 coni seems small.

Yep 110, they tip the pyramid crayfish trap over then slip into it. It's a crayfish buffet for them. That Lil 110 is small enough to fit right into the top neck of the trap. Always hits them in the neck. They can't fight because they are constricted by the small funnel they go thru to get into the trap. It's under water so a quick dispatch

Here's a Pic of a pyramid trap. You cut the slot in the wire right below the neck before the wire flares to form the belly or lower portion of the trap. A 110 fits perfectly in the neck. When the trap hits them most of their body is inside the neck of the crayfish trap so they can't fight much

Too funny, Bud. Hope you get those scumbags on your otter-killing camping expedition, lol.

Proudly banned from the NTA.

Bother me tomorrow. Today I'll buy no sorrows.

Bud, your opening post gave me a good morning laugh. Well written.

Hope you get all of the otters that have been eating your bugs. Hope they are DOA in the traps also. But, may get a laugh if you do end up hosing them with the larger calibers you mentioned.
