A friend shot two while we were small game hunting. We skinned and quartered them and are planning to eat them. Anybody ever try it, was it good?

Eh...wot?

Tastes like turpentine. And tougher than Wang leather.

Just doing what I want now.

X 2 they aren't bad if you're very hungry ???? I try not to let that happen . When I tried it was very young traveling to Alaska they roasted it over open pit coals the grizzly bear tasted better .

You're friend along the snare line .

Geeze, I’m having second thoughts now…

Most of what I read online said it can be pretty good. I figured some of you guys might’ve actually tried it is why I ask.

I’m still going to try it but with lowered expectations. LOL

Eh...wot?

Cut in small squares then seasoned and deep fried is good.

They are very good eating, if they were not eating spruce trees, The ones here eat willow and taste similar to beaver.

I cook them in a pressure cooker but BBQd is good too.

My buddy ate some cooked by Indians, that was cooked whole with the quills right on a fire. Imagine how that smells cooking.

Porcupines are lost man's food. They can be killed with a stick in a survival situation. I generally leave them be and eat something else.

The first time I ate porky was fishing in Saskatchewan some Cree Indians cooked it .
They put it on the fire whole and chared it. The gutted and cooked. Then they just shaved of the chared hide and dove in. I was 8 years old and thought that was pretty cool.
I remember it was very chewy and greasy UT the flavor was good.

We burn all the hair and quills off on an outside fire and then gut, quarter and chunk. Bake at a low temperature or better yet grill at a low temperature until cooked all the way through. Greasy but add a little salt and I think it is quite palatable. You can also boil it and then simmer for about two hours and finish in oven or on grill to crisp up the fat a little. Best months here to get them are August until December. They have less worms. It is not something we eat regularly but more for a traditional event.
