What kind of bait do you use for skunks?

When I'm trapping skunks it's for ADC work. I'm using tube traps or cages. I want to reduce catching any cats or any other non-target. So, I use mini marshmallows along with Jameson's Grub Stake bait.

Skunks are omnivores and will eat just about anything but usually something quite smelly works the best. Use sun rendered fish oil as a trailing sent to bring them into your set but I feel location is more important than bait.

Common sense is a not a vegetable that does well in everyone's garden.

I’ve caught a lot of them in DPs using cat food and especially something fishy smelling.
Also got quite a few over the years in standard coyote sets with commercially prepared predator baits. One year we targeted them with small cages and we used simple can of pork and beans and did very well with that. I believe they will eat just about anything.

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

75% of my incidental skunks while coyote trapping come on skunky lures or baits and I don't use too many skunky lures or baits. I've watched skunks on trail cameras walk by test sets with coyote baits and lures probably a dozen times which really surprised me. I didn't figure skunks passed up anything.

Think stink.
Skunks are one animal that will go for rotten bait.I mean rotten not tainted.
Almost all other animals are not interested in actually rotten stuff.

The other critters might not eat it but canines sure do love to roll or rub on the rotten stuff. I used to have some videos, before a tech gremlin ate them, of canines just having the time of their lives rolling on some bait I bought from a guy that didnt apparently know what preservatives are. It was beyond spoiled.

In the open you will get that, but they wont stick their head in a box or cage to eat it.A skunk will.A bear would too but they would just bust the box to eat it.No other animal I know of here would be interested in eating rotten.
Maybe an Opossum but I dont know anything about them since there are none here.
