So now both the boys have filled their buck tags and shot several doe. Daughter that has not hunted in 3 years even went out and sat for a bit this late morning after we got home and I told her bucks were chasing and she shot one of the 3 bucks my 13 year old passed this morning he passed 5 or 7 doe also I lost track action and deer were moving all over.

So everyone that hunts had filled their buck tags except me both boys have also shot 3 or 4 doe each. They will and can shoot more doe ( hopefully not tell I get the two I have packaged.) But it will stink for them to have to watch a nice buck come in and have to let it walk. It would also be a good lesson.

Even though I'm not big on chasing antlers it does take some of the excitement out of going when your only going out and going to shoot the doe you have let pass several times.

So here it is October and my deer season is pretty well done didn't make it into November. Guess I can go sit in a stand in the morning and see what comes by. But I have two to get cut up now and I have not picked my truck up from the shop so will be limited to hunting my farm and don't want to shoot my pet doe . So if I go out it's pointless unless going for a buck and it would take a nice one for me to consider shooting it. What a contradiction for someone that's not really excited about antlers. I mean if I do have a nice one come in its not like it will be a targeted buck and it was one I was hunting it will just be luck a rutting buck came by.

Never have I had deer seasion over so soon and I have no idea what to do with myself now. I live for taking the kids & honestly I don't enjoy hunting without them the few times I have. Other than look for some places in KY closer than we hunted during their youth season and hunt down there. Or cut these deer up fast and knock the anttlerless down. Should probably put some steel in the ground that may help.

Try a new hunting method to spice things up and challenge yourself is what I like to do.

Great job!! Those kids keep you busy processing it sounds like, but it's all worth it when you can be eating backstrap every couple days all year! Nothing like living the good ol days in the present!

That’s one of the reasons I stopped bow hunting and early muzzle loader. I enjoy sitting in the woods right after the leaves fall. I got the clothes to keep warm and next 2 weeks are best time to be in the stand .

Not much new to try. Killed first 2 deer at 13 with a bow. After a few years of tagging out with a bow I did start gun hunting. Mostly with a ML becuse I could hunt firearms and ML season it was more accurate than riffled slugs and cheaper to shoot. Pretty well out of New with whitetail other than trying trophy hunting. I don't really have time to get serious with that. If earlier in the year maybe just maybe I would get a recurve or long bow and get to shoot it well enough to hunt with. But there is the no time for me to do things for me factor.


They did make air guns legal recently but that's less challenging than bow hunting so?

New species in other states may be the only option. Eastern states have such limited species.

But moving to a positive direction ITS BEEN AN AMAZING YEAR. Despite all the overtime and days away from home. The boys tagged out on nice turkey opening morning of youth season this spring

Along with both killing their best bucks and stacking up several doe. Had some good squirrel hunts in there also.

I just got down a bit thinking about being on vacation and going back to working ot the rest of the year and next untill hunting seasion next year. It's the time of year I live for and only time I seem to enjoy.

More positives and first. My 13 year old got his first compound deer kill( small doe above) and his first x bow kill this year( his buck today) daughter actually went hunting for the first time in 3 years and scored in about 45 min of being out. Won't post pictures of her she doesn't like her picture put on line.

Want a really challenging spot and stalk do it with kids. 3rd picture down is how he shot that one. Now it's a yearling so not a huge challenge of an experienced deer but he got her that way down in KY.

I went through a handgun phase also. 6" Smith 19 rugger su]er red hawk in 44 mag, tc contender in 308.

Spot and stock is my favorite way to hunt and i could use some improvements for sure. . But needs a large property and need to be during the week to avoid making people mad and also not getting shot. Hunting public land can be a pain.

How about taking up waterfowl hunting?

Do not do this! It leads to spending thousands on boats, blinds, decoys, decoy trailers, etc, etc. Speaking from experience here.

There is more to hunting than just shooting.

They always help processing. He gutted his buck with just a little help yesterday. I cut out around the butt and twice put my hands in the body cavity with him so I could be sure he could find and feel what I was talking about and had his hands on the right things. Once when he was cutting the wind pipe free and once when the diaphragm was keeping the guts from comming out.

As far as water foul hunting I have done a little of that a few years back. Built a nice blind on my cousins boat, picked up some avian decoys ,killed some ducks. It's fun but I have a few problems with it. 1 I now live 100 miles from my cousin, 2 neither one up us are experienced duck hunters so have trouble identifying species and sex of birds when they are comming in. Shooting ducks then looming them up on line after retrieval to find out first what kind they are then if I'm allowed to kill them and how many is not the best way of learning how to identify birds especially federally regulated birds. It would be different if we knew an experienced waterfowl hu ter to go along. And it is expensive, but access is easier than finding deer here on the rivers and public water.

IT JUST HIT ME, as I watch a doe with fawn and small 8 point under me. I need a really good Camara in my hands instead of this x bow. The morning light is perfectly defused with the cloud cover. What a wast of such a great opportunity for great wildlife photographs. Filming the kids hunts would also be fun. Got the 13 year olds first bow kill on video but my old cheap cell phone Camara is not good even at 17 yards. You can see the deer hear me bleat to stop it hear the shot and see it run off.

These squirrel and that chipmunk seem to also be willing but unknowing subjects. Quite poor picture of this guy for 35 yards. Maybe I should have shot him but a touch small yet plus I have 2 hanging now. But.. I have not shot one in probably 5 years. Maybe it's time?
