I am attempting to find out if you might know of a trapper named Jerry Shurtz (“Trapper Jerry”) who passed away earlier this year? While conducting an archaeological survey south of Delta Junction, we identified a trap set that we believe belonged to Mr. Shurtz and would like to talk to his family or someone who knew him about his life as a trapper and his influence in the area. If you know of anyone, please let me know or feel free to give them my contact information (below). I am not sure if he was involved in your forum at all but hope that maybe the name rings a bell.

I don't see anything on the Alaska Trappers Association Facebook page. That would another place for her to inquire if she hasn't already

I knew who he was. Met him and seen him a few times. Don’t know about his family. He lived out of town a ways and kept to himself.

Met him once when i was a teenager. He lived south of Delta Junction on the Richardson highway in the Black Rapids area with a mail box that said JD Shurtz. Wayne Crowson or Larry Dorhorst in Delta Junction might have some info on him.

Somewhere in my travels I ran across his son. Now I just have to remember where he is! smalltime trapper surely knows information on Jerry and his family as well as the other trappers mentioned. I'll contact Wayne he knows Jerry since he tapped near him.

I forgot its trapping season since I retired from my line. The Delta crowd charge hard opening day so getting ahold of anyone soon might be a challenge!
