57 years trapping. It's who I am. Every day is still as exciting as it was when I was a kid but a little more work.

Thanks to all of you. I have to say it was a thrill and very unexpected. I thought I'd catch it while coyote trapping but instead caught it in a coon set.

I'm going to have the cat tanned and hopefully my wife will have something made for her. She's been married to me since 1979 so she deserves it. She's put up with a tremendous amount of trapping from me, lol.

Checked and pulled today, about 1/2" of ice when I arrived. Looks like better weather on the way and may set up more Friday. Checked on an old beaver lodge that had some recent activity. The kids and I will try to set for some beaver Saturday. Have fun out there!

We had 4-5 inches most of which is still on the ground, but maybe the next 3 days it will melt off. Did not last night with 18 degrees at 6 AM on the way to Bible Study! Glad my traps are not in the water right now.
Waded a section this afternoon to see how it looked. Water is up about 6-8 inches from 10 days ago and has not dropped much at all with the 1.5 -2 inches of rain. Leaving the ground slowly. No coon tracks in the snow, but the mink were moving.

I haven't been out trapping yet but I thought I would share some pictures from the woods and the fur shed

Saturday evening I took my 4 year old boy out on his first coon hunt. He insisted on walking by himself on the way in to the tree. The way out was a different story and a bit more of a challenge for dad with a kid on my shoulders, a coon in one hand and a young hound on a lead in the other hand.
[Linked Image]

Also along on the coon hunt was a 12 year old boy who was able to knock 2 coon out of the tree. He was pretty proud of his shooting skills and his endurance on the long walk across the standing corn field (645 yards)

Somewhere in this thread I think Lance mentioned that the coon were starting to look better. Well below are the 2 that we got Saturday night, my helper was pulling them off the boards for me tonight and they look like they have a long way to go. Thats ok, we are having these tanned for the 12 year old boy that went on the coon hunt this past Saturday

And finally I put 2 more up tonight that are destined for the tannery. One looks ok and the other is still awful blue yet.

Really slow check today. 4 rats and 3 coons. Coons are questionable. So far twice as many females as males, but that is only 6 total.
Reset a marsh today. Water was open but in the cattails with no sun or wind there was snow and ice.

Behind the 8 ball this year hoping to get steel in the ground the week after deer season, cuttin wood and kids after school activites won out over all my other hobbies but it looks to be slowing down. Cleaning out the workshop tonight and doing some inventory probably going to need to order a few things from MTP
