The "updated" species status assessment. They changed their minds about a lot of things. Relevant info generally starts on page 38. The concern is that this was seemingly written to support listing. Due to...............climate change.

So poking around is this stuff, it appears the threatened wolverine population is expanding it's range?

Dirt, shhhhhh!!! Don't be interjecting facts. Convenient though, that they suddenly occur everywhere folks want to regulate things.

Makes about as much sense as judging my relative wealth based on how many quarters are in my pocket when I wash my jeans.

Its all about habitat and prey for most species, even coyote in Wy in most areas are not in big populations in natural habitat high plains desert, Move a bit east to Ne. or Ks and they are thick because of modified habitat. However wolverine in the best situation because of breeding maturity, and small litters will never ever be big populations. The folks that think trapping is a major cause of population decrease in wildlife just dont get that fact or that by destroying habitat to have their 5 acres ranchette and 4000 sq. ft home for 3 kills wildlife forever.

Well, it appears the deadline has come and gone. No Federal Register notice and today was the deadline. Appears to be more politics afoot. Can't say I disagree with their letter:

I agree with many above and have always wondered when this topic comes up, what’s the so called proper population? Where is the standard or what metric is used to “humanely” decide population numbers?.

Some critters have always been fewer in number and always will be, and most of those that live elusively would rather NOT be seen nor heard.

I would think that for you guys in the far north who are successful, and hats off to you, are pretty much locating them along ancient corridors so to speak. Big travelers those little attitude machines.
