Trapped a completely black beaver opening weekend here in WI. I added a picture of it next to the normal brown beaver. Wondering if anyone ever trapped a beaver
like this before? And better yet wondering if they are worth maybe a little bit more money?

I have only ever caught one but I know many guys run a high percentage of them.

I’ve caught a couple over the years in NW Wisconsin- Might be some value on the taxidermy market- I hooped both of mine, next one I’ll case skin.

I have a story about going "hand to hand" with one up Marten trapping. He beat me to the water but I got ahold of him by the scruff of his neck................and then he drug me in the creek with him. There were 3 others in the truck that got to watch the show. I was soaked and the black beaver was unharmed.

I've caught 5 or 6 in a lifetime of trapping west central Wisconsin. They seem to be more prevalent in the chippewa River system than elsewhere.

I catch a couple.

I caught three out of the same pond at a church camp. Only three I ever caught.

5 I caught in Wisconsin when I lived there. all one family
4 others were here in MN. also all in one Colony
I Sold them all for slightly higher price to Taxidermist

First one I caught , I thought it was covered in oil or something.
Caught three in that pond.
1986 and haven't caught one since.

10-15 years ago I got a nice one in a little creek outside of Holmen, Wi. He was all balled up in a 330 with a lot of ice. At first I thought it was an Otter (no tag) but when I got a little closer I realized he was a nice black beaver.

I caught one a couple years ago and had it hooped.

Wow, those sure are some pretty beaver.

Even the feet on them beaver are black…

When I trapped north western MN.,about 7% of the beaver were black.
