I found someone to sell them to but was wondering if anyone had tips for gutting them. Also how do you guys keep them from sticking to the surface they're on when frozen? I'm using cardboard right now and they're stuck down tight. I'm trying to save them so I can do a dozen or 2 at a time instead of a few here and there.

Also does anyone have someone wanting to buy muskrat heads? That's about the only other part of the rat that I haven't found a market for yet.

Thanks in advance!

Ask the person buying them how they would prefer them gutted and frozen.

listen to mike above. i doubt your buyer will want to count them, so put 20 per bag and sell them per bag.

Find some smaller boxes that will hold say 15-25 rats. Line the box with a garbage bag. Find out how your buyer wants them gutted, and what else removed, say feet, tail heads etc. You can add rats as you get them to the box until it is filled. You can sell them by the carcass or if he would by the lbs., either works. If you move the fresh carcasses around on the other frozen ones you would be surprised how many rat carcasses you can put in even a smallish box.

I do them one at a time while skinning. While the muskrat is still hanging, I cut the belly open, pull the guts out, reach up and take out the remaining intestines from the pelvis, then reach down the chest, push through the diaphragm and grab the lung and heat and pull them out. I twist off the head. I cut the tail off and 3 of the feet (need to keep a foot on for verification). I then put them in a plastic bag (100 count, not a zip lock). I put them on a shelf and skin the next rat. when I am done skinning. I then put them one by one in a zip lock. The large zip lock bags hold 10. Then I freeze them. This way when I sell them I know I have 10 in each zip lock bag. Also I saw someone on here selling muskrat heads on Trap Shed. I think it was Walleye from NY.
