I've been trying to break out the recurve after shooting compound for a few years and having some serious issues on my tune. I get a strong nock high reading (Like 5" at 15 yards) arrows also read weak no matter what I do. My question is what form issues are likely causing this? I hunted with a recurve for probably 10 years exclusively and never had a problem but after trying to pick it back up I'm struggling and can't seem to find info on what issues in form cause that much issue. I'm not an expert tuner but have done enough in the past with no problems that I'm led to strongly believe it is a form issue but I've haven't been able to fix it with any of the stuff I've tried. Some stuff besides form I've tried is arrows from .250-.600 spine with 125-500 grains up front, adjusting nock point from 1" low to 1" high, shelf shooting, elevated rest, two nock points, switching from 3 under to 1 over 2 under. I realize some of that stuff is pretty extreme but was trying to eliminate every possibilty I could. Also, I'm having the same issue with three different bows from 40# - 50# and 54"-62" which is what leads me to believe I have a serious issue with form but without knowing exactly what my form issue is to really focus on, everything I've tried has made no improvement.

U could lower the weight oft the point to stiffen the arrow and I think? You might lower the nock point, check the nock on the shaft or your string if the nock is narrow or the string is heavy

Shooting form is critical to consistency, most important is a consistent anchor point. After that is full draw length every time and lastly is have a focus point.

What length arrow are you shooting? Is your bow a center shot bow? Are you shooting carbon arrows? These are a few basics to know if you what any help from the guys here.

A few basic though base on what you explained. Too long of an arrow will show weak spline, especially if your bow is not a center shot bow. Shortening the arrow will stiffen it and help. Also adding weight to the arrow forward of center (foc) helps strengthen the spline, this is easier if you shoot carbon arrows, if your shooting wooden shafts there is a little more involved. You should be shooting a 350-400 spline arrow. Also, I’d lower the string nock, try 1/2” - 5/8” nock high to start with.

For recurve shooting your tuning the arrow to the bow. Also, arrows tuned to your compound will probable not work.

There are many variables. Don’t give up, but it will take some time.

Record yourself shooting in slow-mo mode on your phone. You will see a lot regarding your form.

Without seeing you shoot, it's impossible to pin point the issue.

Is your nock point in the right spot, shooting nock high sounds like it has migrated or not set right. How is the brace height also, maybe twist that string a bit.

Doesn't anyone shoot woodies anymore, mine fly nice and are easy to tune with the right spine.

I’ve noticed that when I don’t have a consistent release, I can have erratic arrow flight. X2 on the slow motion cell phone video. I even took a slow motion of the slow motion.

Strong nock high with bare shaft or fletched arrow?

What is your true draw length?

What arrow length, bop, are you using?

Anything stiffer than 500 size, unless you have a really long true draw, is too stiff.
