Hot temps have slowed them some but got 2 decent deer moved in this week.

Every 8pt over 3.5 needs killed. Hoping we knock some down this weekend. I shot another doe this evening and another hunter shot two. We’re slowly reducing their numbers.

Yall aren't gonna change the genetic makeup of a wild free-range white-tailed deer population by killing older 8 pts. Yall been reading too many books or watching those commercial hunting channels... don't kid yourself.

Once a whitetail gets 4 and is still an 8 he never gains more points just mass , personal observation and I’ve been killing these since I was 12 , that’s not saying they aren’t great deer just like some bucks don’t have what it takes to become Band C caliber it takes a special deer with age

We aren’t trying to change the genetic makeup. We’re trying to not let a 5.5-6.5yr old 120-130” 8pt run off our 3.5-4.5 140-150” 10’s or better. Yes antlers are used in fighting, but it’s body size that wins the battle. I’d rather keep the younger deer around and take the older 8’s and any younger 8’s as well. May not change genetics, but we seem to have a lot more 10pts running around this season than years past.

True . I have for years looked at my cam pics and go after the biggest one on the farms I hunt. Not many booners show up on most of the farms I have permission on. But dandy deer none the less..
These hot temps must have put the halt on the rut . I had 2 bucks running together at my food plot last night.
