Its rather easy.

The house

The set. Three Thompson 2-X-72" although two snares will usually do just fine. I adda a couple of willow bait sticks its unnecessary in most cases but helps.

Great pics Jeff, early ice is a good time to take beaver near the House and feedbed.
Snaring under ice is deadly for beaver harvesting.
The old timers who chose to trap on snowshoes,as opposed to running dogs, back in the day, used the snare at the den entrances to take their winter beaver.
I always keep a bag of beaver snares or a couple 330s on the snowmachine to take beaver when I come across a house when trapping other fur.
I use both the green pole method and the dry pole method,1/16 1x19 cable,10 in loop.
The old style beaver wire is great if you can still find it and very fast to set.A big benefit of the wire over cable is no need for a lock and its ability to stay open when bumped.

Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

Thanks guys. I cooked it in a pressure cooker for 20 minuets and its bones are falling off the bones, it's so tender.

And yes, Turnips from the garden this summer.

Beaver trappings always easier when the ice is thin in the fall. I have a power auger I use when I get serious that saves the day in thick ice.

I tried late last winter with no success. Was a pile of work making the snare pole in the garage. Think I’ll try using fencing staples to secure the snares, anchor cable running through the eye that’s stapled up to the deadman stick.
Forgot that I had an under ice snaring video by John Lee & Harold Linskey. Maybe I should check it out…lol

I like snaring them under the ice, especially late season when the feedbed has soured. Rally's snares make it almost foolproof.

I have nothing clever to put here.
