Here's an interesting video of a man talking to turkeys. I saw a video of a local hunter speaking to a flock of turkeys last weekend. I was amazed at his ability to make them listen to what he was saying.

I always thought let's talk turkey was just a phrase meaning let's get down to business! Now I find out I've been doing it wrong all this time.

I talk to the gang of 5 all the time, they purr and cluck and I think they're saying " just throw the corn down!" grin

That’s because ole boy hatched and raised them.
“Illumination in the Flatwoods” is the book if I remember correctly. Spend enough time outdoors and you’ll learn lots of vocalizations. Quail are about like turkeys…huge vocalizations. I can tell you if a land predator and aerial predator spooked a covey just by sound. Same with turkeys. It’s really eye opening if you care about things like that.
And for his sounds, no he doesn’t sound like a real turkey, but that’s the sounds he would make when they were still in the egg and when they hatched, he was the parent to them.
