or cringe...

My paratroop kid up in Alaska is out with his unit qualifying on their various weapons systems. I not sure if this his "truck" or another one in the platoon but I cringe a bit seeing that neither the vehicle nor the anti-tank weapon has changed much in 35 years. Not exactly cutting edge, Then again, its the Army, they aren't supposed to chase "bright and shiny" new things such as the Air Force and the Navy (ok, probably fighting words but that doesn't make it untrue)... I think proud is the way to go here (which I'm sure you are).
Cutting edge or not, it looks like it would be fun to shoot!

Yes, I'm proud. They will bleed tough if they have to fight somewhere.

He sent me a video of the TOW going off. It was surprisingly not very loud and without a lot of muzzle flash.

Well it's got more armor than it did in my day. But it's still the same basic humvee we had some 30 plus years ago.

I hope they're still training hard on the scoot part of shoot and scoot because getting out of dodge is what they better be doing immediately after lighting that candle.

they train on the left over Humvees but I sure hope they deploy with the V hull Oshkosh MRAP

go with proud

remember old soviet tanks also haven't changed in 35 years or longer and if we didn't supply the tank that is most likely where it came from.

That looks fun to shoot. The only weapons I ever got to qualify on was the M16, grenades and a LAW Rocket.

I did get to qualify on various armored vehicles, M60 Battle Tank, M88 recovery Vehicle, M113 Personnel Carrier.

Eh...wot?

The kid, when he was with the 82nd, used MRAPs when they were in northeast Syria. There are dozens of close-up videos of both burnt out MRAPs and kills on them from the Rus in Ukraine. The K-52 attack helicopter guys like MRAPs as long distance targets because they stand taller (and thus easier to see) from 6-8 klicks away.

Another bubble burster for you, the T-90M wasn't a Russian tank 30 years ago and are a serious and deadly machines. There are lots of videos of those working Ukie fortifications, Of course, you won't see any such videos om MSM (including FNC) as well. Most Americans have no real clue how many AFU soldiers the RF forces have killed or maimed OR the amount of equipment, now most of it western made, they have destroyed. But you have to get away from U.S, government and media sources to understand.

Now now, you don't understand. For each unit expended on the battlefield is a replacement unit bought from our military industrial complex. Never mind the crew that manned the expended unit. It helps the economy for the stockholders.

I don't know too much about armor or anything crew served.
just was told the MRAP was much better at IEDs and well it's made in WI so it must be better , right???
maybe better at some things like everything goes with trade offs.

I always felt that the hummers were a piece of crap. Always broke down somehow.

Was redoing the high voltage feeds to a National Guard Armory base in S W Missouri in 2008. They had a little cottage industry going there. They'd take Hummer motors that had been wore out, beat to death in Iraq and Afganistan, send them to this NG Armory in Missouri and rebuild them.
It was an interesting operation. Hummers had what as I remember was a 350 V8 engine block redesigned to run on diesel. They'd do what ever it took, crank grinding, cylinder boring, new cam, pistons, etc. Had a couple of old timer civilians that ran the shop and depended on the reservists mechanics to come in and do the grunt work. They even had a dynamo that they could hook the engine up to and put it under a load so that the engine was broke in when it got back to wherever they were going to change it out. They said for a trained crew, it was just a couple hour job to change out a motor in a Hummer.

Did you get out to the bombing and gunnery range behind Eielson? That was where my trapline was back in 87 - 90.
