The new regulation packet was submitted for changes to some trapping regulations. Public comment is open, I suggest you call and let your opinions known. http://regulations.delaware.gov/register/november2023/proposed/27%20DE%20Reg%20318%2011-01-23.htmlKey changes seem to be. Removing the limit of 8 beavers Footholds used to have to be offset, laminated or padded. They are removing the “laminated” and putting that the jaw thickness has to be 5/16th” so we can use cast jaws. Coon chase season is opening August 1st to allow for dog training. Adjust the seasons and make them the same for the three counties. So whole state opens on December 1st. The special area the remains open year round is the same Expanded hunt hours during deer firearm season from 7pm to 1 hour after sunset for raccoons. Red fox season to open November 1st instead of December 1st. Snapping turtles, we will have to submit a harvest report. They are closing the diamond back terrapin season. I’m sure I missed a few things.

I think so, I really pushed for using cast jaw traps not just laminated.
Still working on 220’s and 330’s, but that is a big legislation change and a very steep uphill battle as you know. Hey, at least we got it passed where we are allowed to possess them.

Also, if y'all know anyone who needs trapper education, the course is scheduled for Saturday, November 25th. They can find it and sign up on their Digital DNREC account.

Hey Rob,,, how goes it? You may remember I pushed for the cast jaw change years ago. So long ago now I can’t remember the year. I still have letters I sent to Savakis concerning it … so could pull them out of my files to check. Just goes to show how slow this State moves on issues they feel are insignificant. Always hated those laws surrounding the so called comfort of a critter in a trap. Once again just proves how uneducated DENREC was ,, and still is concerning trapping laws . DENREC continues to pass laws that make no sense. Like our fox trapping season?? March 10 or whatever it is. Anyone who traps fox knows in Delaware. Fox plews start breaking down by the end of January. So you gotta throw them on the trash pile. So much for their “wanton waste “ laws. These and other reasons are why DENREC sucks,,, always did,, always will . They showed their true colors to me years ago .. with their favortism and stupidity. When I here the lettters DENREC I want to vomit

During the years of DENREC’s push for the “ comfort of the critter”??? I was forced by law to laminate all my fox traps . Essentially ruining them , in my view. I would have left them alone and bought cast jaw traps if they had only listened.. I’ll repeat myself,,,, DENREC has no idea what their doing

Oh, yeah I remember that you were one of the original ones pushing for cast jaws, that is why I continued to push for them. I agree, it never made sense that they wanted laminated but didn’t allow cast jaws. Hopefully that is changing. As you know it’s a pain to get regulation changes let alone law changes through the legislature. These are legislative changes and it is a constant uphill battle. Wasn’t really F&W, but really one or two people holding up the regulation change proposals and the recommendations for law changes.

They are trying to match the trapping season with the hunting season I believe.
