yes I remember like it was yesterday, one of my best friends dad was on the boats, but not that one , I woke up early as it was my 14 birthday and I was going to get my deer hunting license for the first time , [you had to be 14 in Michigan to hunt deer back then] and everyone was worry for our neighbors, lots of our neighbors, work on the boats, lucky for them none were on the Edmond Fitzgerald

I was fascinated about working on the water at a young age so in 1980 the year I graduated I got a job on the river and been here ever since. N/B on the Illinois river atm heading to Peoria. The river has been good to me, I can't complain.

Driving home from work last night with both hands on the wheel wet snow and rain coming sideways off the big lake superior had me thinking of that day. It was blowing up pretty good with about 20 foot waves. I was thinking of stopping to get a few pictures but the weather was horrible and I was just trying to get home for my 4 days off.

Can't listen to "The wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" without it affecting me, Can't watch " The perfect storm" either, worked all my life on the water and it all hits too close to home....

Does anyone know where the love of God goes when the waves turn the minutes to hours?

I can keep it together until the verse mentioning "the wives, the sons, and the daughters." Cry like a baby when that part comes up.
I was a young lad growing up in Michigan when that ship went down. Close to home, as you say.
